Default New tune needed. Direction?

Hi guys. I haven't been on the forum for a couple of months. Been going through a lot of personal family problems that I'm sure aren't over. I posted this here in hopes to get a response a little sooner. I received orders to Cannon AFB New Mexico and arrived just a few days ago. I still house hunting but one of the many things i was noticing was the gas here is awful. The highest ive found off base is 90octane. On base is 91. My car has a 418ci that was tuned on 93. The tune wasn't overly aggressive as the tuner I had knew i don't track the car. That said, I'm certain I'm going to need a new tune. I'm not even certain i could drive the car around town on 90. I definitely cant be high into the rpms. Can anybody point me to a local tuner? Or shop that's not too far away or defeats the purpose.

Do you think a mail order would be enough for my heavy mods?

Not exactly mail order tune material. I know Ive only been here a few days but man this bums me out. Its still on the moving trailer as I haven't found a house yet but 3 octane points down at the pumps with 11:3.1 compression has me nervous to run 90 octane without adjustments. If its even possible?

In the mean time you can use a good octane booster such as Lucas or Torco. The others are crap. You'll be fine driving on 91 as long as you stay off the loud pedal. Being in the middle of nowhere I'd check Santa Fe or Albuquerque for a tuner. Good luck.

Find a tuner, local or otherwise who will let you scan/log your car. A good 20 to 30 minute drive cycle is required and it will indicate what, if any changes need to be made. Octane requirements are usually associated with elevation that is why you see 91 octane in Denver and 93 Octane in Houston. There are numerous parameters that have to be logged to develop tune with the compression, cam and other items you have on your engine. You can use octane booster in the interim but before you do a good scan run make sure you have about 100 miles on the best available local gas.

Appreciate the info fellas. I will find sum good octane booster for now until I'm able to find a local tuner. Lubbock is only 1hr 45min away. I'd have to drive with the fuel from here or else it would be a wash.

Did some research on my elevation and I'm currently at 4280ft. That is a monumental difference from Navarre Fl, which was literally driving next to the ocean. 91 octane should do fine. But like you guys mentioned, I wont be comfortable putting my foot in it until I know 100% what the timing should be.
