We may be in a small minority, but I aggree with 01z06. The car is awsome from the factory. Spend the money on driving schools and track days and avoid having to post "my pipes are crooked, my car makes bad noises, my new car don't run" etc...
Intake(I like the TRIC)
TPIS headers
lower
Shifter(I like the Ripper and have the Hardbar shift **** on order)
Exhaust(stock is good but I got a deeper sound and more ponies w/Borla)
Then see how you like it...if you need more, look at Heads/Cam and/or spray. If still not enough, 427 or 383 stroker. My advice is to stay N/A but that's just my opinion.
Please give me opinions on the following:
Best exhaust
Lowering
CCW wheels
Shifters
Effective HP upgrades
Im picking my new Z06 up tomorrow, so any help is much appreciated!!

Why do so many people post this crap? How do you know that Mobil 1aholic isn't a professional driver already? Maybe he is used to 600 HP cars and factory speed is not his thing . . .
Please don't take my comments personally, but just answer the question he asked; so many people on this board give their opinions on topics no one cares to hear. I know the common statement is that this is an open message board, in a free country. But that is not what this guys is asking.
Best exhaust - I prefer the Corsa's but the Borla's are really nice as well.
Lowering - Just torq the bolts down. I think that will give you a inch and half to two inches. It may tell you how to do it in the Tech section.
CCW wheels - Don't know about this. I like the stock Z06's or Z06 Chromies.
Shifters - Ripper
Effective HP upgrades - for the least expensive and easiest HP increase look at opening up the intake.
- Vortex or Black Wing
- Air Duct
- MAF
- Throttle Body

How do we know he or she is not a young kid that does not know they may be better off by not tearing apart a perfectly good, brand new car?
I initially wanted to leave the car alone for a while. That "while" turned out to be only about 3 weeks. It all depends on what cars you've driven in the past. The stock shifter is so bad, at least compared to the Ripper in my Z28. If you've been driving a manual truck, then the Z06 shifter is way better, just to illustrate a point of comparison. So here are my suggestions:
Shifter: Ripper, not the only one out there, though.
Exhaust: Stock is very, very nice! But I miss the intimidating sound of my SLP Z28, so I'm searching for a better sound than stock Z06. I'm leaning towards GHL, check out sound clip somewhere on this forum.
Lower: a definite must-do, if your driving environment allows for it. I never noticed before, but after I lowered mine, all other stock Vettes have this huge gap in the wheel well, unacceptable!
Wheels: I love the stockers, so they'll stay.
Effective HP upgrade: Blackwing intake, or something aftermarket. Next mod that I'm getting will be headers, either FLP or Stainless Works.

You only see one question. I see two.

Since you have only been a member a short while - I will help you out:
We know he is not a "young kid" because his age is 34 years old according to his profile. From there, we can also see that he currently has a 2001 Z06, so he is not some newbie without a clue about Vettes.
It is the same way we know you are 45, have been a member for 16 days, have made 38 posts at an average of 2.24 per day, and live in Miami, FL. ;)
Besides, just because someone is young, don't assume that they don't know better than to "tear apart a perfectly good, brand new car." I think the average age on this board is high 30's to 40's and I'd guess that well over 50% of all board members have done plenty of mods to their cars.

Good points, but if you knew I was such a beginner you could of shown a little more class and not called one of my first posts "crap"...
Being that my interest lies in road course driving, I still maintain that the best mod for a 2003 Z06 is driver training, and I still think that this is a perfectly valid answer to the original question :D
Isn't it funny how in America with our freedom of speech, there will always be somebody to cut you down when you exercise it.
I think the Z06 is as fast as I need it to be for my use, everyday driving around town, etc. I was just stating my opinion like you were....
No one cut down his "free" speech. I just mentioned that everyone likes to throw in their two cents with no regard for the original question. I know people that have gone to several driving schools, and don't care to go to anymore. So when they ask about mods (and make no mention of driving school), why can't you just tell them about mods and not driving school?
Sorry Mobil 1aholic, I got off topic from you post . . .
I just lowered mine using the stock lowering method and it dropped just about 3/4". To be honest with you, I can barely tell the difference in the way it looks, but I can feel the difference on the road.
Exhaust - I like the stock exhaust, minus the rattle. I may get an x-piple to get rid of the rattle, but I have heard that it really tames the exhaust note.
Effective HP upgrades - (obviously) an aftermarket airbox, long tube headers (shorties are controversial), pulleys, any of the big power adders (heads, cam, nitrous, s/c).
Stock Exhaust with the FLP kit!! Lower at least 1 1/2 all around, What ever wheels u want! (I chose ZO chromies!) B&M Ripper!, Vortex, Ported TB or BBK, and a chip on Drag radials should pull some 11.5's with good driving!
Everyone changes the shifter. I have no problems with it, so it is staying in my car. I am used to it.
HP upgrades - pull the cover off the airbox and laeave the frame around the filter. Use two wireties to hold the filter and housing together.
Exhaust - I guess you could change it, but I think the only thing I would do is possibly replace the factory H pipe with an aftermarket X pipe.
So, I would say basically skip all the mods that really don't gain you anything performance-wise.
Apply the money saved to a good Head and Cam package, with a set of headers. 420-450RWHP (70-90 RWHP) ... I'd say probably a much better return on your modding dollar...
