Bras ?? I never bought one..my '99 pewter baby just had her nose painted. I would like to keep it nice..Thinking of a Bra but there are so many, different makers and options..what say the Guru's??
I saw a genuine GM Bra on ebay, but man they want 3 bills for the thing..anyway I think a black Bra actually might look OK since I have black top, hey if ya hate 'em your opinion is also welcome
I think I like that I could take a real bra on & off, something about a stick-on plastic I don't like (???) talk to me Fellas, what's the deal on the clear..cost / Maintenance??
Oh yeah filthy pics of your Bra are most welcome..hmmm..I guess you could actually cover the whole car with the clear plastic..but seriously the clear is a reasonable option I think.
I used the GM vinyl bra for about 3 years. I mainly used it on road trips where I was more concerned about chips than around town. The disadvantage of the vinyl bra for me was needing to take it off during rain storms when I was concerned about sand and grit getting between the bra and the paint. I also had to make sure I didn't put the bra on if the front was dirty. Others will tell you that is over cautious but that's how I treat the car.
After getting tired of the above concerns, I went with a clear bra type of product called Venture Shield. I am very happy with that choice even though it was a little pricey. There really isn't that much to maintain it and it's practically invisible. I just wash and wax it like it was paint. Have had it on for about 8 years now. The Venture Shield covers the front nose section, the fenders behind the wheel wells and the bottom rocker section. I also have the outside rear view mirrors covered. As I said, it's quite a bit more costly than the vinyl bra but I would do it again based on the convenience factor and the looks of the car. Best wishes with whatever way you decide to go.
Buy the way, a vinyl GM bra should not be much over a hundred bucks.
The official GM Bra I saw was Black Vinyl or something. I'm starting to websearch a bit..I see a Spray-On clear available for $37.. that's wild, spray on peel off later..hey,maybe both, protect your nose against the scratchy (cool looking) black vinyl bra. The eBay GM one I saw I think the guy was selling it like a collectors item..grrr

You should be able to get a GM bra, which fits great and protects the front end, for less than $100.
I've run the GM bra on my '03 for over seven years and it has not caused any damage at all. Once you get the snap screws installed, it takes about 2-3 minutes to install the bra and less than that to remove it. Well worth the money IMO. Part number is 19202113.
Why not just have the body shop shoot about 4 or 5 coats of clear coat on it? It probably wouldn't cost that much since you just had the front repainted, and it would look better than anything else...
I kept a GM bra on for over 4 yrs while traveling the country and no damage, never took it off. It looked good on my torch red. Used to remove it for shows but quit. Clear shield won't protect from stones as far as I know.
I've always thought it was humorous that owners don't like the "look" of the bra.........H#$l your only using it when you have to. If you don't go with the clear bra (which is nice) then buy a quality bra (GM or a Novi stretch bra) use when you need it, take it off when you don't. After al,l it is just for the protection on road trips. JMO..........

Creating a thicker clear coat wont make it anymore bulletproof, it will still chip from rocks and debris , and he will be back to square one , and out the extra money he spent
Id go with a clear bra as well, that's the standard nowadays

With 4 or 5 coats the clear would be thick enough to keep the damage from going into the pigment, then you could just buff out (or even sand it if necessary) the damage in the clear. It would take a hit from a fairly big object to go through to the pigment, one big enough that would also go through a clear bra...
