Now, back to the subject at hand, the Corvettes.

The seats in the Vette are comfortable, and I have no problem getting in, or out of the car, but I would think the guys weighing in access of 190# or higher would have a tough time getting in or out of their Vette.

Someone stated people put on weight as they age.
The opposite has been the case for me.
Up until I reached my 50's, I weighed 185# for years, and started loosing it by the time I reached 60.
Any way, I appreciate all the input in this thread.

Bob.
Well, I guess I/we assumed incorrectly about you....your age....and whatever.

I also assume you consider yourself pretty damned lucky to be underweight compared to the norm but I am sorry yer so danged short....LOL

....and I have NO problem getting into, or out of, my car.

I've seen all sorts of folks of all ages and weights and incomes etc so I try to avoid stereotyping owners or making generalizations.....apparently my observations have differed from yours.

Oh....and Magnetic Red is my second favorite color to Pewter.

I'm not 50....many years older. However, I'm not fat I'm a distance runner for over 50 years. Had several Vettes and muscle cars before they were called that.(1949 Ford my first car) I think its how you feel and think about yourself. I will always have a Vette.

Because they can afford them at this stage of life and could not afford them when they were younger and looking for a JOB.

The demographic probably is the way it is because the Vette is an expensive toy, and like me, most people probably can't afford one until later in life...and from what I've seen of the younger crowd, most of them don't realize what a gem of a sports car the Corvette is...a lot of them have the "racer boy" mentality pounded into their heads and think that foreign cars are the only way to go...

Although I've owned "muscle cars" all of my life, and seldom buy used cars, it wasn't until I was 49, that I was able to pay more than $40,000 for a car. That was 15 years ago, and that's when I bought my Corvette. (and I'm NOT overweight....)

I'm 63 and am still the same weight as I was in H.S.(165) I've always had some kind of "fast car" ever since I was 17. It started w/a 1964-1/2 Mustang that was built to around 400 HP to a '69 GTO , a Fiero(6-cyl) -fast? no , but fun to drive. I had a Mitsu 3000GT for a long time and it was an all around good car but parts and good mechanics to work on them were getting slim.
I was out cruising on my Sportster one day and saw a black 2003 Corvette coupe on a used car lot and for the fun of it stopped to see if they would let me take it for a drive as I had never driven one before. They were selling it for a sick friend of theirs and had no problem w/me taking it out. Right away I saw how people reacted to it and it felt like it I was "as one" with it and just not driving it-definitely a different experience than what I was used to. I knew right then that I had to have one as my 60th birthday present to me as life is too short--( a main reason people my age get one ). They wanted 23000.00 for that Vette, more that I wanted to pay, but my search for one began at that point. It took me from that August day to the following April to find my 2002 Speedway White beauty 200 miles away from where I lived. I knew it was the one when I first laid eyes on her. I didn't even drive her until I was on the way home(that's another story).
I just paid her off last month and will probably have her until they plant me in the ground. At this stage of my life I don't need 600 horsepower or a so-called status symbol like an exotic foreign car. She fulfills all my needs in a sport's car.
I might mention two other reasons for my decision to buy a C5 Corvette--
1) Parts, aftermarket & OEM are plentiful and varied, not so with the 3000GT, and wrenching the Vette is fairly simple and gratifying. 2) The online support and knowledge base available for our Vettes are , in my opinion, second to none as I spent many hours on this forum prior to buying one so I knew what I was getting into.
One last thing to mention. The last 2 times I was out driving the Vette I saw no other C5's on the highway - 5 hours of mostly city driving and no other C5's??? I believe that slowly but surely we are becoming a rare, (but fortunate) breed indeed.

As a 70+ y/o "dude" you should know better than to stereotype guys who "you" categorize as overweight. What do you care if someone has put on a few lbs in their older years and they choose to own a Corvette? Its a pretty ridiculous post if you ask me. Its no different that a post inquiring why Whites, Blacks, Hispanics own corvettes. Or perhaps how attractive you are or think you are. Who gives a F*** BOB! All kinds of people buy and drive Corvettes. Fat,skinny, black, white, brown, rich, poor, and yes Bob even 70 y/o opinionated ****** such as yourself. To each his own friend!
Oh, and I believe that I started that thread of pics, w vettes... I am 52 @ 230lbs... But I happen to be one of those guys who are in shape and will run circles around most young men... I have no issues climbing in and out of my car. Kudos to you for being a 70 y/o Bad ***... You go boy!

i'm the first guy...

45 yrs ago I bought my first Corvette, was 5'9" and 165 lbs since then I have lost 1/2" in height and gained 5 lbs. 5 Corvettes later and you are right, us old guys get heavier when we age but we also lose some height.

When I got out of college, got a real job and went looking for my first car not given to me by Mom and Dad I narrowed down the choice to 3 cars, a new 1973 Trans Am, a used 70 Vette convertible and a used 1970 911T. I chose the Porsche, the insurance on the vette and TA was outrageous. I loved that car, drove it all over the country including 4 wheeling it in Monument Valley. The insurance cost kept me out of Vettes, then I got married, had kids and a 2 seat sports car was out of the question. I had fun cars, a 65 GTO convertable, an 85 Mustang GT vert, a 89 IROZ Z with a 5.7, a BMW 535is but all had to have back seats. Then 3 colleges came, and just last year finally went, bought cars for the kids as graduation presents and watched them start lives as responsible adults. The it became my time. I picked up a 92 C4 for $2000 in Jan., spent 1500 to get it running well, then lost it in July in a flood caused by a sudden rainstorm that dropped 4"of water in a couple of hours. State Farm called it totaled and wrote me a check for $9200 which I turned into a 98 Black on Black C5 6 speed. So yeah I'm older (66), not as slim as I used to be and I own a Vette. Problem is I still feel like I'm 18, still don't know what I want to do when I grow up and just love listening to the exhaust burble and pop while I drive down the road. I wish I could have gotten one sooner, but life got in the way. I'm enjoying it now. And I keep the C5 in my warehouse at work unless the weather reports call for clear skies.

19 years ago at the age of 44. Not typical of the OP's opinion of a C5 owner. Things are different now but not when i bought my car.

If you can't afford a C5, you surely must be living in poverty. I park beside Honda Accords that cost more than my Z06.

And people with 50K trucks routinely tell me "I wish I had your money". And I say, "I'll swap you even"..........
