I put a cold air intake on my 2001 corvette the other day and when looking at the throttle body it was very fouled up with i guess carbon all on the butterfly opening. Is this normal? Anything i can do to prevent it? Car has 43000 miles on it.
Will do just wondering where it came from and anyway to prevent it. Thanks.
If you have an oiled air filter, it has too much oil.. it needs to be cleaned, or replaced. If you have a dry element, you might want to change it. you may have a modified air box or an after market filter. Just some reason for build up in the throttle body.
There is no way to prevent it.....it's just the nature of the beast.
I'm running a bone stock motor with stock air filter and mine was, for a lack of a better word, carboned up around the throttle plate.
Get a can of the Throttle body cleaner that ET mentioned and clean her up !
You can go one step further...it wouldn't hurt to clean the sensor wire on the Mass Air Flow sensor.
I purchased a small can combo kit of both TB and MAF Cleaner from Walmart.
It's normal. I just spray carb cleaner on a paper towel and wipe the TB & blade with it. Just hold the blade open with a finger and go after the edges and back of the blade & TB throat.
