Interesting article, but I'm less optimistic.

I think the c5 Z06 will go up, maybe soon as it is like no other recent Vette (5,6,7) in body style, but skyrocket?

Define skyrocket. 20%, maybe 50% in a perfect world? Either way, it's not enough to justify not driving one as it isn't that much money based on current prices.

according to road and track they will be a dime a dozen as all the c5 owners die by the thousands or head to the nursing homes http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...old-or-bought/

That article is crap! The market has a ton of "well used" C5's. He is right about most being owned by owners that love them and wax them, however not all have the cash to buy a new ride and not look at the vette as equity. Most are on their second or third, forth owner by now. That "I bought it new" feeling is long gone. I'm the third owner of my 97 and it had less than 90k miles. I baby it and garage keep her but I'm under no illusions that it's a $17k ride. I love it and can't help but to modify everything, heads, cam, exhaust, intake, shocks, swaybars, shifter ,rims, seats,HUD. I've been a car nut since the 70's so i know the addiction, but many days I wonder if I shouldn't have taken my $14k in cash and bought a decent used Z71 truck for 8k and an Infinity G35 sedan for $6k. Somebody please tell me I did the right thing.

For certain models and/or those that are kept in pristine, low mileage condition, I can see the prices edge upwards. But I doubt that the C5 will skyrocket in price anytime soon.

C5's are picking up a lot of popularity as track cars, since their prices have moved into $10-15k range, and that attracts a lot of younger motorsports enthusiasts...

So I think that they may experience a little jump in prices, but honestly there are way too many available for prices to get high anytime soon. If I was going to buy a Corvette as an investment right now, it would be a 1990s ZR1. Its place in history is assured, because for a time it was the fastest street legal car you could buy, and because the engine attracts a lot of attention. Since prices have fallen on them, now would be a good time to pick up the old ZR1, in 20-30 years they'll probably be worth a lot.

The C5 I'm not sure about yet. Most people prefer the appearance of the standard coupe to the FRC, and convertibles are also very popular. Z06's have a lot of credibility as performance cars, but so do C5's in general and it took 4 years for Z06 to come out. So I'm really not sure, logic would dictate that the more limited availability and stock performance of Z06's will probably ultimately put them on top.

I just don't get the whole FRC thing. Yes they look good from certain angles. My coupe looks just as good from 90% of those angles. But the thrill of the top off experience is just second to nun ! It's the best of both worlds. Feels like a hard top in the winter months and a convertible in the summer months. But with less wind noise. Maybe its living in Florida that makes it such a big deal. Yes it's humid and hot a lot but those days when it's 70 degrees and dry, going topless is AMAZING ! You hear more exhaust note, smell the environment, feel the driving experience .
Flame on!!

I'll go out on a limb here and say NO C5 is going to be worth big money in the future unless
it's very low mileage (5000 or less) and a bone stock rare model. Z06, convertible with a manual, rare color-interior etc.

Bought my 03Z because I thought it looked sexy as hell lol. Paid 24K for it in June 2012 with 22K on it. Been a great car. No issues on it. 57K on it now and with mods, tuning etc, have 29K in it. Over 530 hp in its current configuration.

Its such a solid car ! I am looking at a 2017 GS now to add but I don't care what its "worth". I have no plans to sell it because it feels like a go cart on steroids and I love to drive it !

Only way the C5 goes up is if the newer vettes become a huge flop which we already know isn't the case. Kind of like when the fifth gen camaro came out, the 4th gen Fbody went up in value as the 5th gen performance just wasn't on par with what was expected. Now you can get a 5th gen for the price of a 4th gen

This sort of thing only applies to those few cars that are kept bone stock, not driven, etc.
Basically everything that doesn't apply to my car.

Skyrocketing? I don't know 'bout that. I do think that well cared for and lower mileage C5's have bottomed out and may actually pick up some value as new loaded vettes approach prices that will buy you a decent house in many parts of this country and as performance minded folks recognize the incredible performance bang for the buck C5's represent. Of course, I could be wrong. I remember thinking, somewhere around early '69, that a '66 427 coupe sitting on a used car lot in San Diego was way, way overpriced at somewhere less than $6000.00. I never thought that '65 and '66 Mustang fastbacks would be running 20, 30 or even 40 thousand. I have my doubts on "skyrocketing" but while the performance car market is working on where C5 prices will go, I guess in the meantime I'll just have to settle on enjoying my bargain basement priced '99 30k miles black/black 6m vert that will run circles around just about anything made back in the "old days". Everyone have a good one and be safe!

IF any of the C5 models are going to "sky rocket" it would be unmolested, low mileage, pristine condition '99 and '00 Hardtop/FRC as those were the most limited of the standard production models of the C5 line. But my '99 FRC wouldn't be worth much more than market value as it has been lightly modified and it has almost 175k miles on it. I didn't buy it to make money off of it...I bought it to drive...and I DRIVE IT ALOT!!!

Same logic for Corvettes, Harleys, Timeshares, Condos, white belts and shoes and golf courses.

good luck. Pick one gen forum and this question is asked every day
They are used cars that will continue to depreciate like any other they are far from bottoming out
A clean low miler always brings more thats typical

To appreciate there has to be a demand for them, there isnt really
Good bang for the buck just like the mid-late C3, C4s same thing.

Enjoy what you got worrying about its worth is a waste of time

I hope he is right about the prices dropping, I'd have no problem buying another low mileage c5 if the prices drop like he is saying.
