The Kit is a great idea, but the kit is 500 dollars.. about the price of Gen 1 sensors....
I did the upgrade but sourced things differently. I got a used receiver, a Rock Auto closeout on Schrader (the OEM supplier) sensors, ebay key fobs and a connector. Mine was under half the price of the kit. Works great since I did it 4 years ago and still going.

The batteries are much easier to change on the early versions although I still don't want to do that. There are some threads and videos that show how to do it for the late ones too. However, the late ones are a different style that is smaller and the battery is buried in a harder to get location. So the late ones are not worth the effort. It can be done, but difficulty and marginal probability of success vs the cost of the cheaper late style does not make it worthwhile.
I just replaced my wheels and decided to replace my sensors, which were 16 yrs old but still working fine. I heard the avg battery life is 10 yrs and considered myself fortunate that they were still working. I bought Schraders from O'reilly for $103.00 each.
I decided to spend the money for the sensors for a lot of the same reasons Bill and others posted here. Hopefully I'll get another 16 yrs of use with these.
Forum thread about deleting sensors, disconnecting battery...

I personally don't care about TPMS as I'm good at checking my tire pressures about once a month anyway.
The question is, will I run into any electrical or system issues if I install tires without TPMS sensors on my 1998 C5?
I don't care if the DIC shows some sort of error or TPMS message but will there be any other issues in not having the sensors in place?
I just found this thread, seems to be good info that you can delete the sensors, replace with stock valve stems, keep sensors far away from the car and disconnect battery for a few minutes, et Voila'!
