I was pointing out it was the block size and not just bore and stroke. They do make first generation small block 454 crate engines (not just LS engines).
As you should! New/old school even better. Thanks for the photo.
Liking your Avatar also. Cragars are still the go to wheel for the retro look!
Somewhat newer look inside too. Power door locks, cruise control, intermittent wipers, remote hatch release, lighted cup holders. Went a little overboard but it was fun putting it together.

Awesome job. I'm sure that was a fun build. My avatar is photo of my first '74 Vette taken in 1979. I had just painted it (black over root beer) similar to the '78 pace car. I sold a '69 Camaro to buy that car. Wish I had both of them, however, I still have the girl in the photo.

I am another who wishes I still had my 69 Camaro, never had a Pic' of the car and found one close on-line. Then a nice member here photo-shopped it for 100% of the way it looked then I really wished I still had it !!

Looks like you made the right decision. Here's my '69. Had it 25 years. Oh the cars I wish I had of kept.
I think maybe as early as 1964. My '64 GTO had 6.5 Liters on its fender badges. I had no clue what a liter was back then. I did know I had a 389 Tri Power 4 speed that was the fastest car in high school.
Yep, I forgot about those. I think it was John Delorian's way of making the car sound more "European". You know, the Grand Tourism Oblongata thing. Did anybody else ever do that? American cars, I mean?

I do think it was European car influence that started it, but in around 1979 (I think) we started converting to metric measures ???
A guy I know found my old 69 Camaro about 3 years ago. Was a barn find, where it had sat for 27 years. He offered to sell it back to me for 25 grand but I declined. I have a 77 Trans Am that I've owned for going on 37 years and my Vette. I don't need another car sitting in the garage. The guy did a beautiful job cleaning it up, brake lines, booster ect. He sold it for over 30 grand, and the guy he sold it to sold it for 40 grand, then it sold again. Don't know what they got for it but I have some pics of the car when they were asking 49,995.

Think Pontiac was the only one that did that for years. First on the GTO then on the Trans Am. I don't remember seeing the markings on the other Pontiac models though, till much later. I know Chevrolet had the CI cast in the back of the block then they switched to casting in the 5.7 on the 350s. Don't know what year they started that.
I got a pic of that old Camaro that would make the new owner cringe if he seen it in the spring of 1970. Telephone pole jumped out in front of me. That was my drag race car from 70 to 75 when I sold it.

The first thing I did was yank out the 396 BB and put a LT1 350 in it. It went from running 9.00 flat to 8.02 .03. That car would carry the front tires for a bit with 9" M&H race masters. We had a guy with a Cuda with a keith Black 426 Hemi, and he couldn't take me on the 1/8 mile. 1/4 mile was another story. That car still has the original 4 speed trans and shifter it left the factory with. Billy put a 402 BB back in it, so it appears as it left the factory. He even gave me my old Dixco tach that I bought in 70. Still works too.
