Has anyone ever tried re-installed the factory pop-up headlights?
How difficult is it?
I am in the market to buy another C5, but I do not want a car that has retrofit non-pop-up headlights. I want the factory look. I have found a couple of decent cars for sale, but I am finding that quite a few C5s have had their pop-ups gutted.
Is it easy enough to just put the originals back in?

It's quite easy, I added Custom Projectors with 55w Hids (stock C5 and C5Z lighting is 70s tech and way to easy to over drive at night) and had no issues re-installing...

I put the originals back in mine when I sold it, however I don't know how difficult it would be to install ones from a different car.. Would probably require some adjusting.

I bought my z06 with the aftermarket fixed headlights
I purchased an OEM set of flip ups to install and they've been sitting here for 6 months
I made a thread , no one seems to have any write ups or instructions on how to do the install
My mechanic doesn't wanna touch them, keeps making excuses as to why he doesn't have time
I'm ready to sell them and just live with the ugly depos I'm fed up

It depends on who installed them and what wires they cut. Few of these applications were true plug and play. I have uninstalled two sets on two different c5z's and the process was lengthy to say the least. I'm no expert with wiring so my situation was probably exacerbated. Nonetheless, the new OEM lights I got were not a perfect match due to the fact they weren't original with my car. At the end of the day, I was in the same position as you and if I had the chance to do it over again I would have waited for exactly what I wanted and saved the headache.

I have gone from OEM to Depo's and back. Got my replacements from Vettenuts so not even my OEM ones. Nothing to it really.

I bought a C5 a couple of years ago that had the Depo lights ( I have since sold the car and the lights ).
I found a forum member that was selling a set with the same color as mine.
I think I paid $500 for the pair. It was very easy to switch back, but I had experience with taking one out in the past to change out a bad horn.

They are not hard but I would not call it easy either. You should have another person around so they can hold the assembly when you go under the car th put the bolts in. I did not need to remove my bumper but it was a tight fit. Now adjusting the top cover is a pain in the butt but again it is not hard it is just not fun.

Just make sure the car has the factory wiring harness still intact.
you can still have high-performance headlights with the flip-up design here:
