Hi guys. I've been working with a guy at comp cams regarding which cam I should go with. A little background about my car. It's an 02 z06 with 52k on it. I have tsp 1 7/8 catless headers into the stock ti exhaust. I plan on running dual cutouts so I can quiet the car down on longer drives.
The guy from comp cams gave me two options to which he felt would be a great fit. The first being a 224/230 with a 114 lsa and the second being 227/235 with a 113 lsa. This would be my first cammed motor so I guess I'm polling the audience. What would major differences be? Do you guys prefer one over the other? Will I lose daily drivability 80 miles/week). Will I need to change my pushrods (currently stock) and oil pump? Looking for suggestions! Thanks in advance guys!
Whatever it is, I would not recommend Comp. I have a sour taste from one of their cams taking a crap on me from having lobes that weren't properly hardened. There are better options from shops that atually check the cam to make certain it is manufactured properly before it ships out. There are also guys that can spec a custom grind for you based on your objectives.
You need to change your valvesprings anyway, ya know... I do like the specs of that second cam, but I agree with the above re: Comp. ( I am running one to be fair) My first cam way an off the shelf Crane that was 228-232@112/.600, and I loved it. Drove like stock, but had a nice lope. Also allowed me to reach 483/432 with great heads/ported FAST, etc., back when I was NA.
A ton of the "shop cams" out there are ground by comp to the shops specs. But yes on the pushrods. You wil need stiffer springs so a good hardened pushrod is recommended to keep them from flexing and bending under the extra load.
Thanks for all the help guys. I was sure about the springs but thanks for clarifying pushrods as well. I guess my biggest fear is either gping too mild or too wild with a cam. I drive the car probably 80 miles a week in nice weather...all highway. I just don't want to lose that every day convenience as well
I daily my Z, rain or shine, and I have the BTR 227/234 113. I really like it. Nice mild chop to it and drives mostly like stock. It doesn't always parking lots, but who cares. Other than that, zero complaints.

That's his Stage II cam. I have his Stage III cam & for a dd or weekend driver, in my opinion/experience, it's a bit much for every day use.

They don't grind CamMotion cams and that was my choice on my last cam and would be my choice on my next cam.
