There is an *** for every seat.. apparently the *** found the seat. I am sure that the auction price did not start at 22,000 and others placed bids on it. These C5 still can look relevant even 20 years later. There are all types of people going to these auctions, not everyone is an expert. Lots of people have " more money than brains ".. Jay Leno says that all the time about himself. Jay Knows cars...

20 yr old classic? They're a dime a dozen! That was an $11,000 car! I assumed some rich grandpa thought " my grandson likes red"!
Of the 155 Fairway green metallic 1997 coupes manufactured , how many do you think had a firethorn red interior. ?

Firethorn Interior represented 7 % of the total production, in the case of fairway green coupe ( 155 units ).. the number of firethorn interiors with a Fairway green exterior would be 8 units.
IM not sure of the 1997 auction car in this thread . but I could see a 1997 fairway green car going for better than average money. One with a firethorn interior would be a very good collectable.
You can try to do the same thing with your car, however, the year of your car (2001) has no significance. In fact your 2001 MIGHT be LESS desirable than the 2002-2004. And by the time you end up selling and paying the auction fees, etc... You will most probably go home with mid to high teens in your pocket as far as $$$ is concerned.
Enjoy the car. Drive it and have fun with it since its not for sale. Mod it or don't. (If you're thinking about selling in the future, don't mod as mods tend to scare people) Don't pay too much attention to the $$$ value as next year it will be worth a lot less and will continue to depreciate. There are just too many fine examples out there for this car to appreciate in value. Now, unless you want to properly put this car in storage for the next 25 years and still keep up with the maintenance, it might be worth something by the time you retire.
Would that be worth it?
My car (2003 Z06) is at ~75K miles, it is amazing and has no rattles. Only mods are Corsa exhaust, short throw shifter, double-din mod. I use it everyday as my daily. I drive it in all weather. It goes on long trips as well as to the local Walmart. These are definitely not a "special" car nor valuable. As soon as I get tired of it of if it breaks, I'll get rid of it.
No '97 is worth that much regardless of color combination, mileage, or condition...if it actually sold for that much, the buyer got taken to the cleaners...

Bill, from where did you get the 8 Fairway Green/Firethorn combo? Insider info?
OK for years this : The C-5s are not selling for much money I can't get anything for my C-5 BO HO BO HO . Now that some are selling for some good money now I here who would give that kind of money for a C-5 or they crazzzy . I wish that it had sold for a million bucks ,brings the value on my C-5 up finely . Make up your minds can't have both ways ( By cheap sell high ) not happening.. Be glad finely someone is getting some money out of these C-5 Corvettes makes it better for us all unless your trying to buy one was thinking the people on this Forum already had one ?? if not will sell you mine after I rise the price up $5000.00 see already a good thing..LOL
Who ever said a car was an investment ? Less then 1/10th of 1% are collectable. You see cars selling for big money, but if you read the fine print, frame off restoration, etc then see the invrstment....it's not a good deal for the sellar. I saw a fake 1969 Yanko Camaro with 70k in restoration go for 55,000. .that Camara ( not a real Yanko ) was 3000 new in 69, a real Yanko was going for 4500. A real Yanko today numbers matching 100,000 /150,000.
A rare 63 factory custom Corvette sold new for 4800 dollars, brought 1,300,000.00 last year.at barrett.
You could get factory customs back in the sixties.
Home runs are few and far between
Anyone with an average car who.post on an Internet forum is dilusional if they think their car is an investment. Average cars get average money. High end average cars get high end average money

There are very few motor vehicles that would make a good investment, if only thinking about making money on it...
