Default Unwanted squeaks

My 2002 C5 is doing fine but a noticeable squeak has emerged from the upper right corner of the windshield...roughly where the window frame meets the Targa top. I haven't identified a precise spot. There are several conditions for this to happen: the car's interior must be warmed up and the road is typically not as smooth as it could be. With those two items, the squeaks start. Has anyone encountered this? If so, did you fix it? How? Thanks!!

Can you hear the squeak with the window down? Passengers side window.

Good question! I don't know because we live in NW Oregon and, typically, the windows are up either due to cold or rain or both. I'll test it though. I don't recall hearing this at all in the summer when the windows are often down.

Try this
if you can take someone with you establish the circumstances for the squeak if you can.
with the squeak present, see if putting the window down stops it.
if still squeaking, have the passenger reach out and pull the top down with his hand and see if that helps. several things can cause a squeak, dry weather striping, ( use dielectric grease ) rub it in and wipe it off...
the top latch need adjusting front and back left and right.
window alignment clip is broke or missing. clip is design to help with air noise but also helps to solidify the roof engagement.

Thanks, Bill!! I will check this out asap. You are the second person to mention having the window down. I hadn't thought of the clip...it's situated a bit too far to the rear...the squeak seems to be coming from the very front of the windshield where the roof meets the frame....several inches in front of the clip. But I'll check it out...

Just make sure the clip is still there and not broke. it all helps when the total package is tight. the windows help to keep the top tight..when engaged into those clips.

also when I said adjusting the lock downs, I meant the left and right front locks, under the visors and the center rear lock down.

Yep those adjust points where the roof latches got rid of mine.

I had another one I was chasing forever it sounded like it was in the middle of the dash. TORE everything out including dash heater core ect to find this. Nothing! I was going crazy. Luckily one day I happened to lean my hand on the hood and heard the same rattle. Turned out to be one of the rubber stoppers had somehow turned itself loose causing the hood rattle. Moral is sound can travel from all different places

that clip is a blow out clip and that is it's function, to prevent the window from blowing out at higher speeds and causing wind noise. it has nothing to do with window adjustment other than the window needs to be adjusted to go inside of it !!

the reason for my post was I don't believe the windows up or down or the blow out clip have anything to do with a squeak. A removeable top car is prone to squeaks, you have two mating sufaces with weathershrips on the top and the windshied top. with any movement they can squeak. I say take off the top and clean the wear
therstrip with acohol on a rag. Some say use dielectric grease on the weatherstrip, but I feel if you take it off often you will have a mess. I use Chadwick's no sling tire dressing on all my rubber and plastic items, it makes them soft and pliable like new with no oily residue. reinstall the top adjusting the locks per the owners manual.

There is no over reaction on a squeak. Like I said I tore up my entire interior hunting one down. Makes our cars sound cheap with squeaks and rattles loud as the exhaust. I wish it didn't bother me but almost went insane over it.

Glad I found it and can now listen to sweet harmony of the engine/exhaust without interference ! Now back to the asylum

I agree. To me, errant squeaks and rattles are really annoying. It's like an itch you can't scratch.

Default Unwanted squeaks from removable top

I did exactly what was recommended in the Forum, and the car is now as quiet as a vault. Really!!!!
Cleaned all top contact areas of any dust or other pollutants. Greased the studs contact points (male and female, 8 of them) with Dielectric Silicone Grease, and sprayed all rubber around the top and the windows with Silicone Spray. Drove the car over a very rutted, pot hole filled road, and I am happy to say that the squeaks are GONE !!!!!!!!!

Try it, you will be glad you did.
