Default Pulled the Trigger - Twice!

Some of you might remember the posts I put up last year asking for advice on Cam/Header modifications. I was leery since my Vette/Engine runs awesome and I didn’t want to mess it up. But I really wanted that sound.

Well, after contemplating modifying the engine in my 2000 Vert after 17 years (OO, 44K/6spd, CAI, Magnaflow X-pipe, Corsa Pace Car CB) for months, I pulled the trigger. I discovered PCM of Mooresville, NC. 15 miles north of me. I talked to them and got an idea of what I was looking for, their Firefighter Cam kit. The sound of a 2004 Vette they modified with this cam was EXACTLY what I wanted :

http://www.pcmofnc.com/2014/09/12/cw1

I got on their schedule for 1/26/17, a 2-3 month waiting list. Here’s what was added:

Qty Item Options

1 Cam PCM of NC Firefighter Camshaft (Comp Cam)
225/231, .61x/.61x, @ .050″, 113 LSA
1 Deluxe Cam Kit Cam Install Package*
1 Oil Pump Melling 10296
1 Trunion COMP Trunion Upgrade
1 Thermostat 160 Degree Thermostat
8 Plugs NGK TR6 Iridium
1 Wire kit PCM of NC Plug Wires & Socks
1 Headers Kooks 1 3/4" Street Headers
1 Connection Kooks Catted Connection Pipe
1 Gasket Exhaust Manifold Gaskets
1 Bolts ARP Header Bolts
XX Labor Hours
1 Tune Dyno Tune Cammed LS1
1 Oil Joe Gibbs Break In Oil & Filter
Cam kit includes Brian Tooley springs, hardened pushrods, GM timing chain, OEM GM harmonic balancer bolt, and multiple gaskets (valvecovers, timing cover, water pump gaskets, oil o ring, and ARP cam bolts)

Well 2 days before I had to deliver the Vette to PCM, the weather was so nice I took her out. My convertible top rear window has had the problem of separating from the top and I’ve had to re-glue twice every 5 years using Rhino glue. I knew I was going to have to do it a 3rd time so I had ordered Rhino glue in December. Yep, it came apart that day while driving around.

So I ran around to 4 different places that might do it for me. Nope, we don’t glue windows back on. So the last guy says call Chuck at Lake Norman Top & Interiors in Mooresville. I talk to Chuck, nope he won’t glue it back on but he will install a new black Haartz top.

I spent last summer looking for someone to do that for me, no luck, Chuck’s shop never came up on Google or the Southeast section forum.

So I bite the bullet on this one too. NOW, this is friggin weird, I tell Chuck the Vette is going to PCM for engine mods in 2 days. He says PCM is across the street from him!!!

I didn’t notice Chuck’s shop when I visited PCM. His shop is off the road a bit. So after PCM was done with it, they took it across the street to Chuck for the new top install.

I got some Karma that day, one of the best days I’ve had in a good while  (I’m in the middle of getting my house ready to go on the market + move what I can down to Columbia SC).

For both mods took 5 ½ days, PCM 4 days, Top replacement 1 ½ days.

HP Results: Before 315rwhp, After 378rwhp
Sound:
First Drive: WOW, love it!
New Convertible Top is perfect!

Like having a new Vert!!!

Love the sound. I've been pretty reluctant to modify my engine to much as I like the reliability of it. Might have to rethink this. Wish PCM was closer. Thanks for posting the video.

Ok, so now I'm curious to know what yours stands for? Mine is I bought my 1st Vette, a new 1993 40th Anniversary Ruby Red In 1999. I saw this 2000 triple black Vert and had to have it. Traded it in and now I'm back in black!

Mine is an homage to my favorite band. I have a custom embroidered partition with the band's logo, too. Mine's spelled BAKNBLK, and a of course, the car is black on black.

Cool! I like them too. Saw them in concert in LA in the late 70's.

No you don't' ...understand the old joke

My reference to you pulling the trigger twice in one day.. and me saying that if you pull the trigger twice in one day, you are going to go blind
You are watching too much ****.

50/ 60 years a go this same adage with be," you are going to go blind ".. put so put down those playboy magazines.

when MOM catches you, she says stop that you are going to go blind...
the joke is the kid says to his mother, I just want to do it until I need glasses.

WOW I must be getting old when no one here knows that joke. Popular in the 60's 70's 80's 90's...

Not sure of how your father or brother have anything to do with this thread ??? or being left handed, I am left handed and can soot the eye out of a gnat at 50 yards. and IM 72 years old.

21 feet off hand combat grip left handed, left eye dominant.

50 yards
