Hey Guys,
I'm the next valve spring failure to add to the list. 2002 Z06 with 361xx miles. Causing in 5th gear at 65MPH. Flashing check engine light and heard a ticking. I pushed in the clutch and coasted to an exit ramp. I knew it was bad so I didn't drive it, just tried to restart it hoping the issue cleared. Towed to my local shop I trust and it was on cylinder 6. Not sure which one. Anyhow, now I'm rocking some new "blue" springs. Engine is fine, so now
For the record, Build Date 5/02 and car number 31308
I replaced mine shortly after buying my 2002. A little over $200 for the springs and a compressor then a few hours in the garage. If you do it yourself order a few extra spring retainers in case you drop one.
Sounds like you got very lucky, many times when one lets go the damage can be major. Replaced mine with new gm blue springs just after I got mine when it had 36k on it as well.
I have less than 10k on mine and every time I take it out I'm nervous due to all of these failures. I'll be doing the blues here very soon.
I wrestled with should I do this or not. After this scare I'm in the just do it camp. I paid to have it done but it was worth if to me. Lots of other guys can do it themselves and save tons of money. I will say this, new engine, 10K plus, replace valves, much less.

Same here. In addition replaced valve seals, gaskets, spark plugs and wires. Why take a risk when the solution is so simple and not that expensive.
When I buy another C5Z if I see yellow springs in there I am forking over the cash to get the blues in immediately! What is the avg cost you guys are paying a Chevy dealership to do this?

I went ahead and ordered my blue springs and valve guide seals. Everything will be here this week. Now I have to find time to do the install.

The replacement 04 springs may not be blue. They can be yellow just make sure they are the newer part number. 12499224.
What are you guys paying a shop to replace these? Parts $? Labor $? The car I just bought yesterday is a 2003 late year build so hoping it has the blues. How can I look in there and see them w/o taking the valve cover off? Does that oil filler neck twist ok safely?
