I recently sold my 96 vet and bought a 2002. Love it,but today the check engine light came on. I went through the codes. There were 18 old codes.
I erased them and re-checked the codes. There were none. The check engine light is off but is there still cause for concern?

Low voltage can set off a bunch of codes and a car sitting for awhile can drain the battery leading to low voltage. If you don't drive it for a couple weeks you may want to get a battery tender.
^^^ exactly what he said. These C5's like to eat batteries. Parasitic losses when the car is parked.
when you get in your car turn the key to on and it should read "Corvette By Chevrolet" on the digital text display scrolling from left to right. (Maybe someone can explain this better).
if it doesn't you likely have a low battery. I always put mine on a battery tender and will be putting a new battery in this spring.. and continuing to use the tender.
Had a bunch of codes pop up, found that I had a nearly brand new but defective battery, replaced it and all is well. If you get codes again you might want to get your battery checked. Good luck with your new to you '02!

Another one for making sure the gas cap is on tight. You might also want to just take it by your local auto parts store and have them check the battery to put that possible cause to rest.

The only time I received a 'Check Engine' is when my gas cap was not properly seated. Thanks to the CF comments on that fix.
I drive the car , it takes me to attempt golf 2 to 3 times a week. I checked the gas cap and will have the battery tested. So far the light has not returned.
