Called the dealer back again today and now he tells me the springs are available thru their normal channels.

I'm going to replace the valve springs on my 2004 Z06 with 85,000 miles. I asked my dealer about the #12499224 and he said something to the effect it was no longer available from GM supply but he could get me a set from another dealer. Does this sound correct ???

I don't know if what your mechanic is saying is accurate. I do know that places like jeg's and others do regularly stock and sell these springs. On a side note the 2004 z06 were not as prone to the valve spring breakage problem as earlier cars. Supposedly GM got this straightened out by the 2004 model years.
