Default Changed my engine coolant today, and.....

...discovered why I've been smelling coolant and running hot. First, when I drained the old coolant, I was perplexed why barely any coolant was collected.
So after filling it and going through the refilling and burping process ,I discovered that the upper coolant hose nipple on the overflow tank was leaking a fair amount of coolant as the temperature and pressure Rose.

So, now I'm stuck waiting for a new tank. I'm gonna try Chevy dealer first, as I need to get this back on the road asap. It's my DD. 😣

At least it's a relatively inexpensive repair to make. Good luck getting the car up and running again.

Got yur fix right here. For IMMEDIATE fixes, just to get her running in the mean time. Drain that tank, scuff up the spot with some scotch brite, or sand paper, and apply JB-Weld. It will be plenty fine to run with that, until you get a new unit.

I want to thank everyone that replied above. I was able to source a new AC Delco tank at a nearby dealership for $131 plus applicable MD sales tax and get my ride back on the road in less than 24 hours.

I also later found a Dorman tank locally for $98 - So, I'm not sure if I was better off with the AC Delco unit or not. Obviously there is a problem with the Quality Control of the AC Delco factory item as so many people have had this same problem. Maybe the Dorman is improved in the area of the hose barbs? Maybe someone can comment to that regard.

Anyhow, replacement was a snap. I followed the lead of the poster in the linked thread below and had the recovery tank replaced in a jiff with little to no coolant leaking on my garage floor. I did not use the special spring clamp removal tool he recommends, but I have a long nose plier with grippy jaws that works great for these things and it made easy work of removing the clamps.

The dealership/stealership should be the last resort. Most items will be overprised. Listen to many of the other posts....use an auto parts store if you can't wait for an online order to be shipped.

Didn't read your last post....guess I was correct. The dealership overcharges.

Tell me something I don't know already! LOL
In reality, the $131 price from the dealership isn't too far off the mark for the added convenience of driving ten minutes from my workplace to pick up an original AC Delco part. Other online resellers of AC Delco surge tanks are around the same price.

Anything that was available from the Autozone or Advance Auto locally was not the AC Delco version. Additionally, nobody had it locally and I needed the car back on the road.

Thanks for the advice, but this isn't my first time buying auto parts. :-)
I was just curious if anyone had identified any differences between the AC Delco and the Dorman part.

Cheers
