Default The door window stuck WACK method

Yesterday with temps in the 70’s and wanting to drop the top to drive the Vette around, I had the passenger window freeze in the up position issue. So last night went into the archives CF posts and found this one (2007) that I named the WACK method. There may be more but I stopped there.
[EMAIL="https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-general/1768101-stuck-door-window-easy-fix.html"]
But before I did the WACK method, I checked fuses 30(RD CM) and 31(RD Power Feed) in the passenger side just in case one or both were blown. Both were fine. So I summoned my wife to do the button pushing on the driver's door while I WACKED the door where the post instructed. After 5 WACKS (not lightly), the window moved down. I spent the next 5 minutes exercising the window up and down. I left the window just below the rubber as some have suggested. Although this may be a temp fix, thanks to CF post the window now moves without going into the door panel.

It is a temporary fix - time to order a new regulator.

There is another post that shows how to take apart the motor and clean it. If you do it right it will work like new and you dont have to replace the connector for a new motor because its not the same as what you currently have. I did 1 of mine 4 years ago and still works like a champ. Even did it on a buddies Grand Prix window motor and saved him $$ too.

Lou, just take it apart and fix it. Mine moves faster then my untouched one. Both were replaced before I bought the car back in 2010. It realy is not hard to clean them up and make them work better than before.

Chris...I tried using the search function to find the thread on how to take apart and clean the motor but didn't have any luck finding it.

You have to make sure you clean/sand the armature really good and then smooth out the brushes along with just cleaning and lubing everything. It really does work and doesn't take that much time. Let us know how it goes.

My temporary fix has lasted 5 years. Although I had my door panel off and smacked the motor directly the the handle of a screw driver.

Since I am not a good DIY, I hope my WACK method last as long as yours.

Absolutely results will vary. When something is mechanically hanging up due to system they chose to use each motor will be in a different state of failure to some degree. So, results will vary. I try to remember to use the passenger window now to hopefully delay the replacement period.

In my case, my C5 has been my DD for 16 years and when it locked up the second time, I did not want to risk it getting stuck at the wrong time, so I just replaced my regulator assembly 10 years ago - not "that" expensive or difficult. I replaced the other one on the driver's side last year when it started making a grinding sound. Plus, I don't like "beating" on my car if something is wrong unless it was an emergency.

On the plus side, apparently most of the time they get stuck in the UP position - so at least there is that!

Yup, I THANK GOD it's stuck right now in the closed position as mine sits in a uncovered driveway

It's wierd how so many people seem to have the same problems the same day, at least we know it must be a common problem though
