Default 2001 Fuel Filter Change

I'm going to help a buddy change fuel filter on his 2001 coupe. From one parts store to another there is a HUGE difference in price. Autozone is $19.99. NAPA and O'reily is about $150. What's up with this difference? Thanks for any info.

I would go with either AC Delco or Wix no matter the price. You can get an AC Delco at Rock Auto for 70 bucks. I think prices vary depending on suppliers inventory. Back when these cars were new, filters were going for $250.

Keep in mind that the fuel pressure regulator function is built into the fuel filter for 99 - first half model year 2003 fuel filters.

Yep, my 2004 does not have an external fuel filter.

I bought mine on Amazon; it was an AC-Delco for 29.99. My fuel pressure is 63psi. Before replacing it my pressure was 55 so it was running very lean When I replaced it I flipped it over and it was almost pure black gas pouring out so it was fair to say it needed replacing.

It's later. No problem yet,I guess I'll keep driving it.

In 2001, didn't they have the fuel pressure regulator built into the filter?
A/C delco GF822 They are like $75.

The old one is not a good fit.

According to the seller, this Wix fuel filter has the pressure regulator built in.

Based on Forum advice. We have ordered WIX filter off Amazon 40 bucks.

Have never done a video. Will give it a shot. At very least will get pics. Thanks to all for advice!

I'm taking out the transmission right now on my 01 and plan to change the filter while I'm there. The fuel tanks are full. Hopefully it doesn't gush like a fire hose when I take the lines loose.

I also have a 2004. What do we do if the fuel filter gets clogged? Do we have to remove the tank? If so, what's next, a new tank?
