I went back this morning and checked the measurements with the ebay seats I got last year. The base area is the width but the ciphers are 2" wider at the top. May have to force the seat closer to the tunnel.

Tom can you add the Ebay seat dimensions below?

SEATS Base mid Shoulder Length height
Corbeau A4 19.5 20 21.5 22.5 36.5
Cipher 2001 20 n/a 21 23 36.5
Cipher 2009 22 n/a 23 20.5 35
Braum Elite 20.5 19 22 22.5 37.5
Ebay 21 ? ? 23 35
(sorry I cannot seem to format the entries to align with the heading)

I took the dimensions off of each vendor' site so hope they are correct. I have a set of Corbeau A4's installed and they do not rub at the top, but I have them on modified brackets with each seat moved in towards the tunnel so I could install them on the correct side. I have stock C5 belts currently. I am planning to install C6 belts, and either Cipher 2001 seats or Braum Elites on Speed Daddy brackets to replace the Corbeau seats.

So, 2" wider! Makes sense why it's tight. I'm going to try it as is even though the knee room for me is tight. If I need to, I will remove the seat back cover and do some surgery in the contact areas. I don't think it would take much and after reinstalling the cover you would never know it was done. I'll have a better idea next week.

Here is the pic 21" across the top for the ebay seats I have installed. The Ciphers are 23" across the top. But should only be 1" wider per side. Ill post what I did with the brackets when I pull my seats out Wed. I know I made my own holes on the ebay brackets I think somewhere in between the 2 provided which should move it tigthter to the tunnel 1"

Also looks like the Cipher 2009 are also 2" taller than the ebay seats. So the wider shoulder area is pushed up higher as well which is putting it closer to the upper seatbelt reel. Man I'm hoping I can get these to fit and don't have to sell/return them since I waited an extra 3 weeks for delivery.

When your seats come in post the actual measurements. The following is direct from the Cipher web site as the 2009 dimensions:

This is from the listing on Ebay for the same 2009 seats but from CARID:

So it gets confusing!

Well I ordered the same seats as Dahn so maybe he can bust out the measuring tape. I'm 5' 9 so I probably wont need it as far back as him but I would still prefer to move the seat in the center enough to not hit that.

The extra width isn't in that area but lower. The back is squared off more than the stock seats. I spent some time today trimming the plastic and tweaked the belt reel position and I'm pretty happy with the position now. I'm 6' and 225lbs with more in the waist than some. I couldn't have a smaller seat as I wouldn't fit the seat so the seat has to fit the car. The current position I have the seat in is comfortable for me, it's where I would put it even if it could go back further so that's good. I'd like it a tiny bit lower but right now it's on some wood spacers while I figure out the position and tilt angle. The rear of the seat mount will be as low as I can make it and the front looks about 1 1/2" to 2" higher. I'll go to the shop and get some measurements and post back.

So best I can tell by looking at the pictures and published dimensions the Cipher 2001 should be slightly narrower (it seems the shape of the harness slots differ, the 2009's looking more like the Braum seats) at the top than the 2009.

Cipher 2009

Cipher 2001

The 2001's don't come in the suede option, so I am looking forward to seeing how the other installs progress.

As soon as the 2001's are in stock with the color I want, I will pull the trigger. Have the bracket, C6 belts and extenders waiting.

Dammit, if I end up keeping my car I am getting the cipher 2001 in grey. I wish they were in suede, but oh well.

I read where Braum Venom Series are suited well for 5' 10" and above. Does anyone have comparison data on size or quality Cipher vs. Braum?

I listed the Braum Elite dimensions in post 22. Here are the Braum Venom series dimensions:

From what I can find out the quality between Cipher and Braum are equal as far as the Cipher 2000 series and the Braum Elite series. Cannot comment on the Braum Venum series but they look to be equal as well, given the price point they are at. The Braum site says they do come in suede as well.

Have you looked at the Brey-Krause harness bar, they have attachments for using a sub belt on top of the drivers seat. I have been using them for 10 years with no problems....even an off course excursion...an they work very well.

My guess is they are both made (as well as others) by the same third party and it is a matter of cover quality and logo.
