Problems, problems and more (you guessed it) problems
Hey all,
So I have the Vette torn apart right now. I took the steering wheel off wired in a new harness for a touchscreen head unit removed the headlights and put in a CAI. The problems I'm having are:
1) no power to the stereo HU. I wired the ACC and constant along with the ground to the area under the passenger kick board.
2) I tried turning the car over and it just kept cranking, it was running great before I started all of these projects. Could this be from installing the CAI or cleaning the MAF? I also have the "Reduced Engine Power" message since the swap but I didn't read anything about that keeping the engine from starting.
TIA
I don't see how adding a CAI could do anything to prevent starting. Nor should a Headunit install. Is your battery fully charged? How did you clean the MAF?

I took it apart and just wiped down the rods holding the resistors with a moist wash cloth. Any ideas on the HU power issue?

They are pretty fragile. You should only use MAF cleaner. Did you reconnect it?
Did you disconnect battery when you did the wiring? Maybe you blew a fuse.
Yes, I reconnected it. And yes I disconnected the battery. I've installed a few stereos. But this is my first car with an ECU though, so I wasn't sure if I made the computer Mar.
Wow that is one delicate operation...wiping down those super thin wires. I would never attempt. Make sure everything is plugged in properly, disconnect and reconnect battery. check if anything else works, eg horn, lights. You have something not connected..think, think.

Well I have lights on in the cabin and the seats have power, but the headlights and the steering wheel are removed so I can't test the horn or lights. I'm no stranger to engines and it doesn't seem like a power issue. This is the first time that I have cleaned a MAF like this. This thing seems to throw codes every time I change something. Very frustrating.
Not suppose to touch those wires with anything, but a fine mist from a spray cleaner.. any pressure will stretch and destroy them. You don't have to break them. You wiped them down? WOW...
Why did you remove the steering wheel ? No need to do that for the head unit, or the CAI... Looks like you dove into this job with out reading the sign... " No Diving ". unless experienced.
Good luck, I would not have a clue as to directing you out of this mess.

Sometimes if you can't fix the problem your working on fix the problem you can. Fix the no power to the radio first. That should be easy. What's cutting the radio power might be cutting the ignition. The only thing in the power accessory circuit should be fuses and the ignition switch.

I'm redoing the interior, and have a new steering wheel, hence the removal. I don't see how wiping a resistor would destroy it. It's still attached.

I read on another post on here that you can use those wires for Aftermarket stereos. I used the yellow for the constant 12v and the orange for the ACC

From what I have learned, you are not suppose to touch those wires in the MAF and only use the MAF spray cleaner to remove deposits. Not sure if that would keep it from starting, though.

O'no, not good. NEVER touch the wires and ONLY use the MAF cleaner spray that JR pictured. Then, it doesn't take long, let it dry completely before reinstalling. I'm afraid you might have made a $250 - $300 mistake. Sorry for the news

I guess I'll try to disconnect the MAF and see if it starts to find out for sure.

Just in case you are right, Amazon has a new Delphi AF10043 Mass Air Flow Sensor for 85 bucks.
