C5 experts please help!?

I remember that feeling when I got mine over the summer. I went from a Caprice to a Cavalier to a Cobalt to a Corvette. It was like I hit the lottery.
I actually stood in the garage eating my dinner and staring at the car the first few days I had it.
These cars are great, aren't they?! Do you know about the "new C5 owners checklist"? As in, the things you want to check and possibly replace? If not...I can post some "problem" things you should look for with these cars. Luckily, it's just a bunch of more minor things...nothing crazy. Worst case scenario, you might have to replace harmonic balancer (about $1,000 or so including labor and part). And that would be a worst case scenario for the most part.
In the "General Topic" section of this site, you should see the repairs some Porsche, M-B, BMW, Audi owners have had to do...like 5x the cost of C5 repairs. Considering these are still, 13+ years after they stopped manufacturing them, some of the fastest, most technologically advanced cars on the road really tells you how great they are.
As for the sound, I'll definitely let you know what the awesome Corvette Shop tells me. If anybody knows what it is, it will be them. But considering I've had 3 mechanics inspect and drive it, passed state inspection with emissions, and driven with no check engine lights or any codes on the DIC, I'm sure it's just something that has to be tightened or some hardware has to be replaced or some other minor fix. The computers on these cars (the DIC) seem to have codes for almost anything and everything that can go wrong (within reason), so if it's not there and the car drives well, and it definitely doesn't seem like any transmission or differential issue, I wouldn't worry about it.

Here is something weird... it warmed up about 15 degrees today ( the humidity is also up) and the car hasn't made the noise a single time today!
I have no clue... but I'm knocking on wood right now.
That's interesting.
I haven't driven mine since November (some salt here in PA was used throughout the winter and didn't want to drive through it). From what I recall, though (I was also trying to block out the sound of the noise mentally after a month of ownership haha)...Mine made the noise frequently during August and September, but the noise was more quiet and seemed to almost go away by October/November...meaning it does seem to be temperature dependant.

With that being the case...Somebody mentioned a heat shield. What does that do exactly and where is that located on the car?
I wonder if that is the culprit. Since based on what you're saying and what I've experienced it definitely seems temperature dependant...it has to be a part effected by swings in temperature. Anybody know other parts that could make a noise like this that change the way they operate pretty significantly based on temperature?
Mine never overheats. It gets hot on the engine temp. gauge (to where it should be) then cools right down, so the engine cooling system is working perfect.

Hey I was able to get a video that I think makes it easier to hear.
It really sounds to me like it is coming directly from under the center console or maybe a bit closer to the engine.
Can you hear it? Does it sound similar to yours?
You will notice right at the end of the video, it goes away as I got the rpms's above 1400 or so.
I posted it as a reply towards the end of the thread. You will notice at the end of the video, the sound goes away as the rpms climb.
Thanks again for all of yall's help!

I think you may have nailed it.... I just posted a video toward the end of the thread, I had the door open and my phone recording right at the bottom of the frame. It sounds like it is coming directly from under the center console or maybe just a bit closer to the engine.

Haha... well, I'm not sure how to get it to you other than emailing you or texting it to you directly.
Im almost certain I've figured out that it is an exhaust rattle... i think the guy who called in an "h pipe rattle" was right, but I don't have a lift and the car sits so low that I can't get under it far enough to shove some high temp rubber grommets up under there as a temp fix haha.
