I posted recently that I had purchased a set of the black ACA lookalikes. I am converting them to b-xenon projectors. However I am having a problem. I have removed the four screws that hold in the projectors that come with the light assemblies. In Toque's pictures which I am following the projector appears to just come out with the screws removed. In mine it seems like there is a sealant or glue holding them in. I can't get them out without forcing anything that might damage them. Has anyone else done this and was able to get them out. I just don't want to start cutting stuff and get to the point of no return and ruin the housings.
Yes, heat it real carefully with a heat gun, or like some other members suggested stick it in the oven @250 to heat it up but be real careful about getting burn. The sealant will soften up after the heat, but it is a real sticky mess if you don't watch out.
I'm almost certain you purchased the wrong ones. I looked into this when I did mine. There are two types of ACA repros on eBay, the most common and cheaper one cannot be taken apart without breaking it. I tried baking and everything. The actual ACA repros that can occasionally be found on eBay and is seen in Torque's write up as well as Radioflyer's use can be opened easily. I did not need to heat them, just remove the screws.
The correct lights say ACA in the bottom corner of the clear plastic on the front. If yours do not say this, return them. It is not possible to do a retrofit on those, I tried. The non-ACA repros come in several colors, chrome/black/halo/no halo.
Here is a picture of the correct ones, you can see the ACA on the bottom left next to SAE DOT:
The chinese version of these headlights is NOTHING light the version from Taiwan. The Projectors are inferior quality.
The downside is removing the projectors without cracking the housing is nearly impossible. They are glued into place. I built a jig that distributed pressure from leverage across the entire back of the housing and STILL I cracked a few housings.
In addition, the weather seal the Chinese version is horrible and many customers have reported the mounting points cracking when the mounting screws are installed
My advise, leave the headlights alone. They are better than stock especially with HIDs, but the quality is too poor to mess with modifying it.
Here's the output you can expect with an HID bulb:
