Very sad indeed. Seat belts or not, speed was definitely a factor. Would like to know what caused the driver to lose control? Something in the road he tried to avoid, wet/icy patch, or just senseless speed without proper driver skill?
Hard to believe both seatbelts failed in the Vette. Our son learned at an early age that the car doesn't move until he puts his belts on, and now in his mid 20's it's just normal practice when operating a motor vehicle......may she RIP!
If you look close the back of the passenger seat is almost on the dash. So something with the seat failed. Perhaps the seat was removed at one point but the bolts weren't torqued to spec causing the seat failure?
we had a very sad wreck here, State Police were chasing a car, speeds in the nineties and the runner ran a red light hitting and killing a 21 year old college girl with her boyfriend following a distance back. he gets a call from his girlfriends roommate and said they were talking and she thought she just got hit by another car. all she heard was a load bang !! he then realizes it was his girlfriends car of which there was nothing left but pieces !! a 15 year old boy was a passenger in the runners car also killed (drivers nephew) driver 16 year old Mexican with no drivers license !!

Whenever I took people for rides on my Hayabusa they didn't go unless they had on good jeans, an over the ankle boot and I would borrow gear from a friend which was jacket with armor, gloves and a full face helmet.
When people ride in my car I make them put on the 5 point harness when the race seats are in it. I'm probably going to step on it at some point....I'm not making a phone call to tell their family I didn't make someone in my car take 2 minutes to put the harness on.
Factory safety items in cars aren't designed to protect to at 130mph.....remember that when you are showing someone how fast the car is.
This is a sad story.

Looking at the passenger side of the car, there appears to be a door bar, which would have been part of a roll cage. If this was the case. the car was probably modified for drag or road course events, and the driver may have just blown the tires off by applying more power than the road conditions could deal with. I know from bitter experience, having planted my '94 Vortech blown Camaro in a deep ditch a few years ago by doing just that.
