Default HEAD Room ?

Ok before i bought my 2004 Z06 i drove a 2001 Z06 and noticed I had plenty of head room. Then i bought my 2004 and noticed the headliner sat lower down in the driving compartment. When did they change and can i replace mine with one of them ?

Thank you !

My understanding is the headliner changed in 2003. If you find one for an earlier model you could swap it in.

so 2001 to 2002 and it will fit in my 2004 and still maintain the added headroom ?

I don't know for certain on the fit as I haven't done it. My understanding is the A pillars and the headliner were changed in 2003. Starting in 2003, the headliner dips just before the rear window which reduces head room. From what I've read, the changes were government safety regulated. The roof itself didn't change so a 2002 or earlier liner will give you more head room. The question is if anything changed due to the A pillars.

I've been tempted to remove mine and attach material directly to the roof. I have no idea what the underside looks like or if there is anything that needs hiding like wires.

Fixed Roof Coupes (and by default, z06s) have a headliner not being made anymore. The only place is a junkyard.

Common thread theme is FRC water leakage causing (in the worst cases) headliner damage. I took pictures and posted of a z06 with no liner due to water damage many years back.

I am 6'-6" so every 1/4" of additional space is very important to me. I have also been told that the 2001 to 2002 are the lower profile liners. Just need to verify the fitment in a 2004. The NO liner approach if cleaned up and painted is also a option.

The C5 is the only generation of Vette I can fit in, all others a too small and I love my Z06.

I am also considering this seat mod on the driver side seat =

Corbeau Evolution X seats will help as they sit closer to the ground and also a much nicer seat than stock

They changed in '03. They are a direct bolt in. I changed my 04 to an 02 a few years ago and made a thread. You do gain a little headroom.

Needle in a haystack to find one. There aren't aftermarket solutions.

The pictures I posted was a guy that couldn't find one and he had been looking for months, and that was 8 years ago.

I wonder if you could just have an upholstery shop custommake one like the early ones. Headspace is an issue for me too

I have an 03Z that I customized the headliner to give me more headroom. I cut out the plastic lattice and fiberglassed the curvature to be more like the 02 headliner. After the fiberglass, I wrapped the whole shell with new material and now the car is much more fun for me.
