Default HEAD Room ?

Ok before i bought my 2004 Z06 i drove a 2001 Z06 and noticed I had plenty of head room. Then i bought my 2004 and noticed the headliner sat lower down in the driving compartment. When did they change and can i replace mine with one of them ?

Thank you !

Not sure they changed anything on the car. Could it just be an adjustment in the seat position?

Z06 doesn't need a stinkin' headliner. Just adds weight and keeps noise out.

Sorry the OP.
Was wondering how tall you have to be for the 04 to not have enough head room

Just take it to a custom upholstery shop. They can give you any degree of thickness and soundproofing that you want.

If you can still find a pre-2003 FRC headliner it will fit. I did it to my 04 without any problems years ago.

I have done the spring trick shown in the video and my only gripe is that after a while the metal part of the seat frame (where the springs connect) would be more "noticeable" when sitting. It didn't provide any discomfort but was more of an annoyance.

Thank you so much ! OK, here is my dumb question. Why did the change take place in 2003, If something structurally was changed ( for safety reasons ? ) at the FRC top why would the 2001 to 2002 fit and provide the same 2001 to 2002 higher headroom ?

Regulations change. The government doesn't care what part of a generation a car is in (beginning, middle, end). They want improvements when they want them and manufacturers must comply. Evidently there was some sort of head impact requirement implemented. The roof line didn't change but the headliner did.

Like you I am 6'6" and probably slightly more torso, although at 6'6" who's counting? I sat in a z06 and didn't fit, but I do fit in the base coupe, which is what I ended up purchasing. Seats goes all the way to the back, and reclines the maximum amount. My head is basically under the b pillar plastic, not the headliner.

Prior to my 2004 Z06 I owned a 1999 coupe. Yes I fit in the coupe better than my current Z06 because of the current headliner. But the removable top coupe mechanism reduces headroom and is NOT as good as a 2001 to 2002 Z06. You should set in one, crank the seat all the back and you will be pleasantly surprised

But of course with the top removed all bets are off

Also thank all of you for your help. Either I find a used 2001 to 2002 headliner or remove and custom mod myself.
