I have been working on gathering parts and supply's for a complete interior make over. I'm waiting on a few parts and am on the fence about a few ideas.
I noticed a lot of members have done some nice DIY work so why not show it off.
That looks like a lot of work getting the LED's in there and finding the right polarity. I ordered some blue ones.
I don't seem to be getting voltage to my shifter light. The schematic shows wires coming off the instrument cluster. My HUD doesn't light up either so I will be going in there any way.
Did my whole interior DIY. Didn't do the stitching but the taking apart and gluing of the leather and cf vinyl wrapping. New thread coming soon as I add alcantara to certain pieces and change the red trim to a black trim.
In doing some research I found out a few things about factory stereo including a few misconceptions.
One of the best stereo up grades you can make is the 3.5" Twidlers (bose's 3.5" crappy speaker in the door)
You can directly replace them with excellent results with any 4 ohm speaker.
The myth is that that the Corvette Bose systems use a special amp that only 1 ohm Bose speakers work in.
This is only true in the C4.
The front and rear speakers in the C5 are regular 4 ohm audio speakers and you can replace them with the more clearer sounding units of your choice.
The Polk Audio DB351's are about the best bang for the buck and are a direct. The wire leads need to be swapped because the Bose speakers have the smaller connector on the positive lead.
One more thing.
If you do use replacement 3.5 speakers there will be bass blockers included to protect them and there is some confusion on weather or not to use them.
People will say that the Bose processor already takes care of that. Yes, that is true, if you are using the stock head unit.
If you are not using the stock head unit then you are using something like the ROEM VET1.
The two capacitors on the ROEM VET1 are connected to the white and grey wires that go to the front L & R speakers. The capacitor is a ~250uf which should be a 6db rolloff at 150hz.
The 200uf cap included in most 3.5 speaker sets should not be used.
So you shouldn't use any bass blockers because they are in the ROEM VET1. see them?
That is the real reason of why you don't need bass blockers on 3.5 speakers.
The Bose processor is not involved at all. The wiring to the fore main speakers is direct.
According to the schematic, only the door class D amps are fed by the Bose signal processor using the ROEM VET1. The class D amps are in the doors and rated at about 20w RMS. The amp is not located in the processor (another misconception).
The processor is located right of the gas pedal neat the center console.
wow they still haven't gotten that fixed after I told them about it 2 years ago. They stopped responding to me after my paypal time expired. I just lived with it a put a patch where they precut for a vent. Stitching will not line up. The rest of their products fit great including the dash.
I went with redline for my next round of doors but they are still being processed.
I will bet that others would provide DIY leather but for legal reasons it would have to be licensed as a GM product and therefore impossible.
I sent JF a link I let them know that we are going to be reviewing their product this month. I guess this is it.
it seems they just reversed the drivers side when making their mold for the passenger side. Not realizing there is no vent and the buttons are half the size. Maybe they have a different setup in the UK I don't know.
