Do you remove your hood when doing various types of work on the engine? It would seem the access would be so much better. Secondly, does anyone have a process to do that when by yourself? I can see how it easily unbolts but I am concerned about marring, scratching, dropping the dang thing trying to take it off myself. my garage is fairly tight quarters and the only thing I can think of is hanging something like a ratchet strap from the ceiling and attach it to hood to hold it in the air.
Yes the hood has to be held at a certain angle to get the lower screws out then back in.
If you absolutely must try to take it off yourself I would recommend 2 pillows at the back on the cowl and fenders and some towels or something to cover the fenders.

I do not think I would even try to remove the hood by myself. Find a helper to give you a hand. The C4 clamshell hood is one thing I really miss on the C5.

I had thought about it until I tried to adjust my gaps. Major pain to get it re-aligned, I left it on !!!!
Yeah that may be the worst part about it more so than actually removing it; trying to re-align it if you're adjusting for gaps.
Right after I got my C5 I removed the hood to do some work up front. I marked the location on the hinges for easy re-installation. When I did get the hood back on and started adjusting the gaps I couldn't get one of the hood latches to latch. It was a super PITA.
One thing I would recommend if you're removing the hood is don't remove it from the hinge; remove the hinge from the chassis. This helps aligning it a lot easier and you don't have to deal with trying to side bolts in from the side.

As I was inspecting the hinge apparatus I had actually figured if I did remove it that I would do exactly that, remove the hinge along with the hood and mark the exact location of its' placement.
