Damn! VettesGoneWild beat me to asking the question regarding traction control and active handling being on or off. Very happy you made it out relatively unscathed and no others were hurt. We live and learn and a lesson for the rest of us. Be safe and be well!
Glad you were not more seriously hurt or worse! Looks like your car sacrificed itself for you. Was Active Handling/Traction Control turned off? I suppose it cant be 100% effective, maybe giving a false sense of security. Hope you find another C5 to enjoy.
Very pleased you were not hurt seriously. When I first got my C5 I decided to 'show off' and came out of a side street with full throttle. The rear lost grip and I started to spin. But a previous experience in a Acura taught me to slam on the anti lock brakes to pull out of the spin. That action saved me and the C5 but not my pride. Looks like a salvage title will be needed.
Thank God your alright for the most part. I believe you will go over this in your head, over and over again. A very tough lesson learned MrCho, my guess you're young, chaulk it up as life's experiences for the betterment. Get well soon brother and GET BACK UP AGAIN AND RUNNING! Only this time smarts and common sense, take it from me, I lost my son Jonathan in 2003 during a heavy rain storm in Florida, his lack of experience lost control in my 01 Z/28 Camaro. I know I did stupid stuff in my muscle car days, Gods love and grace kept me alive.
Happy Good Friday brothers.
Glad to see you're able to tell the story after seeing the pictures and thank God you're okay for the most part. You'll be able to replace the Z someday. Best of luck to you on your healing.
Beautiful ride but at least your alive to build another.
Not saying this was your situation but a lesson to those who throw HP at a car without properly upgrading the rest on a street car(Wider street tires, Bigger Brakes, Suspension)
You were definitely lucky! Glad you are OK. Sad looking pile of C5!
Of course, I have seen stock C5's lose control under those conditions, but with that much HP on the street, not surprising. I agree with Jeremy on Top Gear, anything over 400 HP on the street is uncontrollable.
Still not sure how this happens to so many Corvettes, I have been driving them almost every day for 45 years and never lost control of one (yet) - once the tires break loose, I have always been able to regain control almost instantly (but I always drive automatics).
I dont know about others but speaking from my experience, driving a 500whp vette and a 700whp one is a whole different world, the 700whp one wont give you ANY chance, if the tires start to break loose you never know what to expect, there are chances you're screwed and you wont be able to keep it on track. The car was dangerous and hard to keep straight on hot and dry conditions, I just didnt expect it to be so dangerous so quickly on bad conditions. I was in 3rd gear in low RPM when I slammed the throttle to pass a car the tires started spinning right away and I started sliding sideways a few feet in front of that same car. I know I hit a bump in the road before I started sliding my guess is that definitely didnt help with losing the control. He says he was driving around 45-50mph so I couldnt be much higher than that

Maybe we could all donate $10 or something.
Thats kind of you, but I'll be ok. Thanks
I was waiting for a professional evaluation of the car so that my insurance covers the whole car with the mods it had on it, thing is its still not done so they wont cover any mods. You learn the best lessons from the mistakes that cost you money, trust me it wont happen again.

You had to be moving at a good rate of speed to hit a few poles and a car, plus fly in the air 5'.... Any car with some power you have to respect the road conditions or something like this can happen. Hopefully you can get another car soon.
Really not that bad, 45-50mph.

Watcha gettin next?
Thanks bro, I have no idea yet. It all depends on how much the insurance pays. This car with all the mods in it was paid for and since I did all the mods on it, it cost me a lot. I wouldnt like to finance my next car either so the budget for the new car will be the money the insurance pays me. I put so much of sweat and time into this car that Im really not sure Im motivated enough to start from scratch. Corvettes are my passion and the car I always wanted to own since being a kid, so it definitely wont be my last one. Im only 30yrs old, theres still hopefully plenty of time.

Yeah it did. I have no idea if the active handling was off, cant remember really. I doubt it was off since I turn it off just when I plan to have some fun with the car and with the conditions that I had I didnt plan to have any fun with it at that moment.

Glad you and the people around you are ok, the car is replaceable.
They really do. I have 4 kids at home and I was just happy to see them when I got home from the hospital.

Slightly OT, any interest in selling that door panel?
Sorry, couldn't resist. Rest easy.
Thanks, there's not many parts that are still good on the car, I have no idea if that door panel is good or not. Soon Ill go inspect the whole car and decide if I buy it off the insurance or not. If I do and the panel's good Ill let you know.
Ah man... Know the tragedy... My 911 totaled doing stupid thing... I couldn't get over it for two years.. Finally replaced it with present C5... Replace it soon as you can... Another sports car the only fix.
I'm happy your gonna be all right, the main thing. Regarding TC, it's never off when I drive my similarly powered Z, but it really doesn't do anything at our power level. I don't know why, but even in decent conditions, I can't hammer the throttle without the car trying to swap ends. Even a slow squeeze is iffy below about 60 mph. I admit my tires need to be upgraded, and plan on doing that this spring. GL!
Thankful this one had a happy ending as in you being alive! The car is toast!! That really is a wake up call and I will think about that when driving my supercharged Z.
