thx for sharing your story brother...it's cool you're still with us...my 2001 C5 has 455 RWHP and this is a reminder to me to chill in my ride...my daily driver VW GTI has ZERO pwr compared to the vette
You were definitely lucky! Glad you are OK. Sad looking pile of C5!
Of course, I have seen stock C5's lose control under those conditions, but with that much HP on the street, not surprising. I agree with Jeremy on Top Gear, anything over 400 HP on the street is uncontrollable.
Still not sure how this happens to so many Corvettes, I have been driving them almost every day for 45 years and never lost control of one (yet) - once the tires break loose, I have always been able to regain control almost instantly (but I always drive automatics).
so every ZO 6 is uncontrollable ???? it's the driver not the car !!!!!

Glad the OP is OK - lucky even given the state of the wreck.
But I hope he had notified his insurance company that the car was had been extensively modded for extra power, as not telling them gives them an out not to pay for either the damage or the 3rd party claims.
certainly happy your ok
but dude!!! how cool was that
you and all those people who saw it, will be talking about it the rest of your and their lives
not making light of the situation, just something you don't see every day.
Thanks brothers. I will most definitely have another Corvette, when will really depend on what the insurance pays me. The car`s mods werent insured since the car just got out of storage after winter and they absolutely wanted to have a professional evaluation of the car and I have an appointment for that...sad thing is I didnt make it to the appointment. So they will most likely not pay anything for mods. I did mention it when I did the claim and the agent told me to pull out all of my receipts and they`ll see what they can do, since they do know I wanted to insure it and was waiting for a professional eval. I didnt know tho they couldnt refuse to pay altogether if the car wasnt insured for the mods, dont know what to do now really. Might as well not mention anything else about mods and just forget about it .... anyone else had bad experience with that kind of stuff? I never did any claims I have no idea how insurance companies work really.
I was in 3rd gear in low RPM when I slammed the throttle to pass a car the tires started spinning right away
First of all I am very glad you were able to walk away from that wreck. I had an accident with my 96 LT4 in cold conditions so I know what your going through. going over the situation in your head analyzing what you could have done different. Its just a car and it will be replaced.
the statement above is where you went wrong. being very familiar with a 630whp Z06 you should never slam the throttle on a car making power like this, no matter what gear your in. Especially in wet/cold conditions. power like that needs to be respected 100% of the time. Throttle control is key! unfortunately you learned the hard way. like I said I did something similar so i'm not perfect either. Just sharing my thoughts and experience from someone of the same age.
Good luck with insurance and finding the replacement!

There are a number of articles on line about the need to declare mods to your insurance company. A Google search will find them It seems to be "SOP" that the cost of mods will not be reimbursed if not declared, but extensive mods (especially for power) can get a claim denied and the policy cancelled if the assessor picks up on them - i.e. something very visible like a supercharger or turbocharger.
