The two thoughts I had were both mentioned here my first was the shocks may not be in good condition any more. The second was where does the bang come from my c5 has more interior noise than I ever would have expected before owning one. It is well known in the community here that gm really dropped the ball on the c5 interior quality. If you were to take interior panels off and strategically apply some foam tape along with replacing any worn push pins the interior would quiet down. If the noise is from the outside it will take some work to find

Brave man. When I pointed out a while back that the C5 had far too much road noise entering the cabin, I got royally abused. Our new family car, i.e. my wife's car, has roughly the same size/type (245/45/18 A/S) rubber as my C5, and it is almost silent inside. License risking quiet, as it's always going rather faster than it feels.
And no it not a Lexus or an expensive Euro import.
Not sure why u got abused... No one in hell can say this interior isn't the most cheaply made POS I have ever seen Lol... With that said, I found the banging was coming from several places. The sun visors and targa top was quite loose (I could have sworn the sound was coming from the dash) also the front shock was leaking fluid. Tightened everything up and installed bilstein hds on all four corners with my brand new firestone Indy 500 tires. This thing rides like a Lexus, handles like Ferrari now.. well, close.. lol thanks to all the suggestions, I was able to pinpoint the problem areas. Looking to install leather interior parts. YES! Chevy majorly dropped the ball on the interior. Thanks again to all!
keep in mind this car is a low mileage garage queen (why all the loose parts?)

Thanks for the update. Tires are the real culprit and if Porsche ran the same tires I believe you would be doing a direct comparison, as in they both ride and sound the same. IMHO
Actually not the tires! The interior is the difference.. NO comparison in fit and finish. Porsche looks like hand stitched leather, etc... Chevy uses cheap plastic that does not fit well together. It really does boggle my mind why the big wigs let this interior pass... my 87 Corolla had a much better interior than this car.
