I love the Gripper **** I've got on my MGW. Perfect size. Good grip. Just right for me.
Except for the metal plate on top! I don't mind it in cooler months, but my girlfriend isn't a fan of the shift pattern being seared into my palm all summer.
I contacted MGW last year to see if they had a different finish available, but they did not and recommended leaving a hat over the ****. Sorry, but the hat is staying on my head.
So! We're an independent group who can solve our own problems when the vendor doesn't listen, right? Heck yeah I know I'm right!
My thought is this: remove the top metal shift pattern plate, someone can take a mold of it, and then cast it in black delrin. Problem solved.
I don't have the experience doing molds and casting, but I guarantee someone here does, or maybe a supporting vendor. Because you can legit sell these for $20 all day and people will buy them.
Let's get this project off the ground before more owners get a new flesh tattoo this summer!
My right hand approves! Lol
Cut open a tennis ball, stamp a corvette logo on it, slip it over the shifter, call it a **** Coozy, charge 19.99, Done!
Hopefully the girlfriend likes your new fuzzy ****.

Nah, she likes the bumpy texture already on the MGW.
See? I didn't even know you can't cast delrin. I think any material which is less prone to absorbing and conducting heat would work. I like the idea of a black piece vs current polished look.
I'm sure that with some research a casting type of plastic can be found.
I thought about using casting resin but I remember back to my days of doing this stuff and over time casting resin will start to break down and release it's oils. Excessive heat will further speed up the process.
Maybe i'll do a little research and get a hold of some contacts in the business
Can you possibly take a picture of the shift pattern plate and post it ?

My Gripper's metal top came with a dull gray finish, and it was like a branding iron. I got used to throwing a little towel over it during the days I got to take it to work.
That sounds promising. Would the plastics born from a 3d printer survive heat though? Sunlight and exhaust/torque tube heat.
This is not my area of expertise. But I know from others there are many materials available for 3d printing. Nylon, fiber glass, kevlar, carbon fiber to name a few. There is a fabricator on the SLC forum with some great info for those interested. This guy has skills.
