Default Had a little fun with an Audi S3

First of all I did not even know that there was any such thing as an Audi S3. Little embarrassing since i am a bit of an Audi guy. But these days the German manufactures keep coming out with new versions all the time. Hard to keep up.

Came up behind him on a twisty section of road near home. Short stretch about 2 miles long. Only ones on the road. He was pushing a bit. Not crazy fast or dangerously fast. So I decided to go with him. Corners he was about the same as me. But out of the turns and on the short straights I had to go easy on the fun pedal.

Our play time only lasted about 3 minutes. But it was fun. My first time seeing how my C5 compared to another performance car. Was it a true comparison. Not at all. Neither of us were pushing hard at all. That is stupid. But it did give me the impression that my C5 can handle very well and out accelerate the Audi.

BTW.........got home and looked up the specs on the Audi. Hard to pin them down. But has about 290-295 HP and about the 295 ft lbs torque. So it was no wonder I had a lot more acceleration.

Ok.....that is the end of my "Road test comparison". Now I just sit back and wait for R&T to hire me.

And for all you know the driver of the S3 was also going easy on the fun pedal.

My drive home is through a very expensive stretch, there are a lot of nice Audi's that can be fun. Funny thing is most folks with cars like the S's have no idea how to drive them.

I just love the fact that my car cost less than a year of payments on theirs.

I completely agree. Many only know how to make the payments. And.....it does feel good that dollar for dollar we have a much better performing car

Yes the RS3 would be time to back off!

I had a run in with an A7 diesel..... He creamed me.. But it was a monster although oil burner think it was a twin turbo V8 so very rapid bit of kit... Mine sounded better

You mean a new design is faster than a model designed 20 years ago? How impressive

I'm not sure of that. They don't have much top end, and they are 367hp, which is not hard to make with a C5. A 6sp with the fliptie mod will make that outta the box at the crank too, plus we are noteably lighter

The RS3's are 3.9 to 4.1 seconds 0-60 (suprisingly slow for an awd car with that kind of power) but the older ones do pull 12.6 quarters with a dead hook. A basic bolt on C5 will put the hurt on most RS model Audi's. Drop a decent cam in it, and now you're eatin' um for breakfast.

I'll let others buy a $60K car that is slower than my $16K car

I agree that the c5 is a better performance bargain but there is no question that the Audi is a more refined car. The Audi will be more comfortable with a superior interior and less road noise. These two cars are not really that comparable as they are not in the same class.

spot on. The interior is nicer than the one we have. The C5 interior looks like it was designed for a Cavalier But the 3 model Audis are ugly little jellybean 4 doors IMO, and except for the brand new model, the 3's have basic bitch interiors as commuter market cars go. The only fancy thing about them is the aluminum trim on *****, and my wifes '11 Jetta has that. Plus, NO cool gadgets like a HUD, or selective ride control.

It's drivetrain is nothing to write home about either, front wheel drive based awd, where most of the weight is way out front, and 3 differentials hurts their top end. It is a racy car for Corolla owners is how I see them.

It is quiet, and more comfortable, I'll give ya that.

The S3 is a 12.9 second 1/4 mile car stock... I've played with one... ridiculously close ...
