Hi there so I have a 1997 that I bought last year and it's been really buggy with starting lately. At first it was a no start no crank but I turned the key on and off rapidly and it began cranking and started. Now I'm getting theft deterrent codes.
The engine cranks and wants to start but isn't getting fuel. So far the codes I've been getting are p1626 and b2723.
Since it cranks it's not the theft deterrent relay? What about the ignition switch? If anyone could help me I would very much appreciate it.
I know very little about this. But I also know that when someone posts a question like this they are looking for help as soon as possible. From reading different threads similar to yours it sounds like it could be the ignition switch. Have read here many times that they are prone to failure.
But hang in there.............the pros will be responding very soon.
Thank you I appreciate it. This happened around 5 months ago or so and then she started again. It started up after a day of letting it sit but I'm sure it will happen again. When I started it the codes cleared so she's in the driveway right now. I've had that key pass detection circuit code for a long time now but the system fuel was newer.
Originally before this she was not cranking at all but I turned the key rapidly over and over and it got her to crank so I'm not sure if the starter was just stuck in a dead spot or what. Appreciate ya guys I come her all the time to look for engine code posts.
Also when she wasn't starting she was really really turning over like she wanted to start. And checked the fuel rail which had nothing. Really seemed like she was disabling the fuel to the engine to me. But I'm definitely a noobie when it comes to mechanics.
I know this and other threads have beat this to what ever, but my 02 just started this intermittent starting issue. The difference is if I hold the key in the start position and push in the clutch a few times it'll start. Usually only after a couple times. Sounds like it may be the clutch safety lock out switch. I ordered one from Amz $5.95 to check it. Security light is out, no codes and I hear the relay clicking. Any thoughts?

I've enclosed a pic of the 2002 starting circuit...I would see if you have 12 volts at the purple wire (terminal A) of the clutch switch with key in START position...if good move down to terminal C2 of the TDR relay which is the yellow wire...for the TDR relay to close that wire finds a ground from the BCM (relay control)...you can jump the red and purple wire directly (load side) and the should crank but make sure the car is in neutral !!....the TDR relay may be bad OR the BCM is not supplying a ground to the relay control !!
I came up with a method so I could test the starter and starter solenoid in the search for the no start sometime problem. I took a spare relay GM# 13503102 that has the same 4 pin configuration as the TDR relay (the one above the BCM in the passenger foot well). I removed the cap and soldered two wires (16 ga stranded – old power cord) to the relay contact pins # 30 & 87 (not the relay coil) inside the relay. Drilled a hole in the cap, feed the wires through the hole and replaced the cap. Ran the two wires (about 3’ long) to a push button switch I mounted inside a little plastic box for safety. I removed the TDR relay and plugged in the modified relay. Orientation is critical! I used pin 30 as a reference to be sure the modified relay was oriented the same as the TDR.
From the drivers seat, I made sure the shifter was in neutral. I didn’t push in the clutch pedal. Turned the ignition to on (not start) and pressed the push button switch. Voila, the engine started! No delay, no hesitation.

Simple TEST! Have an assistant Do all that is required to crank the engine "except" turn the key to CRANK. There is a Theft Deterrent Relay (TDR) in the passengers foot well on the fire wall above the big silver box (BCM) It has FOUR WIRES Yellow, Yellow/Black stripe, Purple and Red.
When the ignition switch is turned to CRANK you should hear that relay "CLICK"
That causes the contacts to connect the Purple and red wires together and the 12 VDC power goes out to the Starter Solenoid and the solenoid engages the starter and cranks the engine.
See if that relay is actually clicking. I have a manual C5 and I actually hold the key to CRANK and bump up & down on the clutch peddle safety switch and can hear that relay from the drivers seat.
If the relay is clicking, you at least have a functioning control circuit. To see if the relay is actually functioning (providing the solenoid 12 VDC) you would need a meter.
Our C5s have a well documented issue with the Starter SOLENOID. They STICK and cause the exact symptoms you describe. If you whack the solenoid/starter while HOLDING the key to CRANK and it cranks, you need a new solenoid.
Now, about that ignition switch. I’m very mechanical / electrically inclined so, it’s very easy for me. Just what skill level you have will define that.
I got over in the drivers seat, made sure the shifter was in neutral. I didn’t push in the clutch pedal. Turned the ignition to on (not start) and pressed the push button switch. Voila, the engine started! No delay, no hesitation, an immediate start just like my old pre computer Chevy.
Now the solenoid and starter are ruled out as a cause and it only cost under 10 bucks.
I can post pictures if anyone is interested.
I'll post a picture shortly. I apologize for beating this issue but I have one issue I can't figure out. With the clutch in, when I turn the key to start there is a several second delay before the starter cranks the engine. The security light is off, no codes on the DIC and the starter tested good. Could this be caused by the ignition switch? I have the LMC5 steering wheel lock mod so there is no lock relay installed.

I spoke with the independant Corvette repair facility owner I use about the starting delay issue. His opinion is that it is normal. Although the delays vary from C5 to C5, when you turn the key to start the car, the system is communicating with all the various computers to verify everything is OK before it makes the request to crank the engine and start.
