I got a front plate ticket last fall after about 10 years of not having one on the car....I was a little annoyed but the law is the law. I paid the fine which I think was $125 bucks with the surcharge. Thought about putting the plate on but I didn't.....Figured it cost me $12.50 a year to not run the front plate and that was worth it to me....If I get another one, I will be rethinking that figure. If all I got was a warning...I would have been thrilled
That happened to me , l got a ticket in my village . I was pissed , made a stink to the code enforcement guy , then I got a second one in the next village over ! I put on the front plate . Remember that song , I fought the law and the law won .
I've been lucky in Utah so far. My only bad experience was in Seattle when I was there on business. I was there on business in my Focus ST. I was at lunch with a client and saw a meter maid hovering around my car. As I was sure I had properly paid for the parking I went out to make sure I wasn't being towed or something. The snarky idiot was writing me up for no front plate. When I pointed out that I was from Arizona and that Arizona only gives you one plate, she called me a liar and gave me a ticket anyway. I called the number to plead my case and was told that I would have to go before a judge. At this point I concluded that this was a scam by the city who figured an out of state person would just pay the $115 rather than go to court as it was a month out and would be very inconvenient due to necessary return travel. By coincidence I had to be back for a meeting at the same time. So I did return and show up to the court date. Went in front of the judge. The judge asked how I plead. I told the judge I was from Arizona. He looked at me and said that it was his understanding that Arizona only gives a back plate. I assured the judge that he was correct. He asked why I didn't just call to have it dismissed. I assured him that I had. He swore a little under his breath about incompetent clerks and staff and dismissed it. It's a stupid law in my opinion and used to harass.
I understand the frustration, but life's too short to obsess about it.
I bought one of these from a forum member (it was new). Living in MA, 2 plates are required and they WILL pull you over, every time. It looks much better than nothing, even if it's still "primer" black and not gloss like the car.
I run a front plate without obstruction,, as my state requires. It could look better, but few cars are designed with license plate display in mind, and I have much larger concerns in my stewardship of the car. Like, I have to glue the back window in place, again.
I might get one of the factory plate surrounds, but it is not a big enough deal for me to cough up the dough, after all I don't have to look at the thing. I have a clear cover if I go out of state touring, it snaps in. I am not adverse to buying extra crap I don't really need when it comes to cars.
Ever see euro jaguars with the long string of plate numbers going across almost the entire hood? I count myself lucky from that perspective.
I don't know if this helps, but my last ticket triggered a $450 dollar fine via mail settlement. I went to traffic court where it was reduced , as normal procedure, to fifty bucks. The judge didn't even bother to attend court, it was all bailiff.
If I lived where one was required I would just put it on and call it a day. I know the way my luck runs. I would be out having a night on the town and have just enough to drink to put me over the legal limit and I would get pulled over by a cop just looking to make his ticket quota for the month and next thing you know I would have a DUI because I did not have a plate on the front
Here in West Texas, they have never pulled me over for not running a front plate. As long as I stay in the city, they have been pretty good about it, but as soon as you get on the highway the DPS WILL ticket you.
Fortunately, the only time my C5 has ever been out of town in 17 years is to go to the dentist 15 miles away and I mount the plate for a day to make that trip.
I would imagine if I got pulled over for something else in town they would add that to the bill? Local police either have other priorities, just been nice or I have just been lucky so far?
I hate the front plate law and I dislike the tinted window law, both of which we have in Iowa.
I use a stretch bra on my Vette going to car shows, its just a matter of time before I get pulled over since the bra covers my front plate. Hopefully the officer is a car guy and understands that I only put it on going to shows to keep her clean.
Would absolutely be willing to pay any fine given to me to not install a front plate.
I would also try the suction cup thing to see if it worked for getting me off with a warning though. If not, I would mount it, prove its mounted, pay the fine, remove it, and repeat in 10 years.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's a moving violation in MA as well which means points and a potential loss of license (eventually).
My best friend had two exhaust tickets, an altered ride height ticket and slid off a road in snow and hit a stone wall and that was enough to trigger driver's re-education. He didn't have a single moving violation (you could argue the wall was too fast for conditions, but...)

thanks for pointing that out, about the snap and cuss design feature of the show and go plate frames.
Sorry you had to learn the hard way, but the way I keep bouncing off of parking curbs, I would have had the same problem. I am getting the plastic sliders (fangs) for the radiator supports because every once in a while, scrape.
In ny they are going to complete automated tolls. Either an ez pass or plate reader that sends a bill to your house. So they are cracking down. We already have the tint police, in ny tint is going to make you fail inspection if its more than 30 per cent........
Well here in "The Tax Me State" of NE, it is a two plate state except now they have relaxed the law and will allow you to run just a rear plate IF YOU PONY UP AN EXTRA $100.00 for the privilege of running only one plate per year.
Get the color matched frame for it. At least that helps. I had one when I lived in Emperor Cuomoland (ie the second most commie state of NY. Second only to Commifornia). Now that I moved back to America (Florida) I put the full color matched cover back on. These cars draw enough attention when following all of the laws. Just suck it up, put it on, and live with it.
OH, I also drive it all year now with the top stowed in the trunk.
