Default C5 Gas Door

I've experienced the failure of the gas door to open on my C5.
It opens if you press and HOLD the release button in the console but just giving it a good push doesn't work like it use to.
I've search the forums for comments and see similar problems but with C7 cars earlier this year.
So many of the comments don't seem to apply to my C5 because the features are different or just not applicable to a C5.

Anyone know why the press and hold option seems to work?
I'm afraid this is just an early sign of the day it won't and I get stuck so I fill-up when the tank is half empty.

Not sure why your button is acting up but there is a cable behind the drivers seat that will open the fuel door if the button fails. Might be under a carpet flap but it's there.

I've got a 2000 c5 convertible and the cable behind the seats under the matt releases the convertible top cover (Tonneau?/boot cover?) so that you can put the top up and not get soaked if that release button fails to work. Tried it a long time ago and it Works. Haven't seen another one for gas cap door but makes sense! I'll have to look. Good to know.
Good luck.

Here's a good thread on cleaning the actuator and cable assy. Your's is probably getting a little dirty/corroded.

Does anyone know if the release cord is below the carpet on the floorboard or behind the carpet in the side wall (vertical)?

My fuel door would not always pop open and all it needed was a spray of lubricant on the fuel door's hinge. After I did that, just a quick push of the button and it flies open.

I had the same problem. Took the fuel door release button out and cleaned it with contact cleaner and sprayed some WD-40 into the release mechanism at the door and it works like the day it was made

I'll get some contact cleaner and try this.
