I have a Blackwing -aftermarket airbridge & silicone coupler also a 160 Degree thermostat, Car is going in for service on front end and seat and oil change Question is if they see these items will they void out my warrantee?? Do I need to remove all and go back to OEM ???
Under Magnusson-Moss Laws, they CANNOT void your warranty for aftermarket parts, (especially filters) unless the parts can be DIRECTLY linked to the failure for which your are claiming a warranty repair.
Unless your front end issue is a coolant leak, OR possibly a whistling throttle body, it should be a non issue. For the whistling throttle body it should also not be an issue, BUT, if you get someone who doesn't understand that it is a common problem they might tell you that the Blackwing is causing it.
No. Unless like stated above your problem is directly linked to the aftermarket part. I had the same set up in my 01 vert and had it in for service several of times and was never asked about it. You will be fine.
legendz,
depends on your dealer...CALL them and ask before you take it in....
Regardless of the legal protection afforded by Magnusson-Moss, some dealers will still attempt to void all or part of your warranty if they see aftermarket stuff. These are probably the dealers who see Corvette service as more of a liability than an asset ... they know their tech staff isn't qualified and that a repair may end up costing them money when it comes back 3 times because it wasn't fixed right. These guys would rather try to slime their way out of their obligation. On the other hand, there seem to be a number of dealers that really understand the spirit of the warranty, and will even provide or install aftermarket items for the customer. Call the dealer and find out which kind they are before taking your car in there. It's probably easier to find a better dealership than it is to take on a fight with these jerks.
Magnuson Moss simply states that the manufacturer cannot mandate the use of a specific brand of product as a condition of the warranty. They cannot void a warranty based on the use of other-than-OEM components, UNLESS they provide the replacement components free of charge, ala BMW today. However, this does not mean they cannot require all replacement parts to meet OEM specifications! Thus, yes, you can use other-than-OEM brand parts or parts other than those used by the OEM, however, if those replacement parts do not meet OEM specifications, they can indeed void the warranty, whether they cause damage or not.
The majority of aftermarket air-cleaner/intake systems made today do not meet OEM specifications, as they intentionally alter the design and specifications in an effort to gain some increase in performance. This means that it is indeed possible for the OEM to void warranty coverage for repairs, based on the use of aftermarket performance components that do not meet the OEM specification.
Unless you have a piece of paper from the OEM stating that a contemplated mod is acceptable and will not void the warranty, the risk of facing a repair later is totally yours. Many feel this is worth the added performance gained.
The best bet is to buy from credible aftermarket suppliers who offer extended warranties that add on to the OEM warranty to provide proper protection. Lingenfelter offers this, as do others, to pick up where the OEM warranty falls short, or is negated by a mod/part, such as installing a supercharger.
