I thought the same way until my column lock stopped disengaging properly.

Then I put it on because $50 is a lot better than the alternative.

The problem is if it does lock there are extra steps to do before installing the LMC5.

I bought my 2003 Z new and I had the column lockup the second year I had my car at 17,000 miles. In my driveway. Facing my open garage door. Got it unlocked the next morning. Overnighted a CLB and didn't move the car until I installed it. I have never had a problem since. Don't anybody hesitate who hasn't done it yet.

I've had my car tuned to eliminate the 2 mph cutoff. I had it set at 200 so I will be able at least drive it someplace and not be stranded. Also, the lock ring has been modified by the dealer before I bought it so the wheel can still turn. I'm happy with the CLB still so I will leave it for now.

Exactly the reason I haven't changed over yet. We'll see how long it lasts. Thanks for reaffirming my decision.
