I'm booked for a dyno tune next week (adding headers and an Intake) and would like to add an LS6 Intake prior to tuning it but can't source one anywhere.
If if I find an LS6 Intake later would I be fine without a retune? Would I be leaving a fair bit of power on the table?
Can't believe how hard it's been to find this manifold
Would NEED another tune?.....No. Car wont hesitate and would drive fine. Would it be beneficial?....absolutely. The pcm is going to recognize the additional air and do what it can to adjust. Without tune of the LS6 intake you may be leaving some gas mileage on the table as trims are going to be off some. Yes you would be leaving some power off the table, but not so much that id stress. Is it possible to just hold off until you find one? I will say this, you will see so much more gain from tuning with headers vs an intake. Check the parts section of the forum. I sold my LS6 intake there.
Could you procure a LS6 intake in that time? If so then it would be worth the wait. If above all, I know you would have peace of mind knowing you had it all tuned.
I cant believe it would be hard to find an LS6 intake manifold. All LS1 engines after 2000 came with LS6 manifolds.
its been surprising. Between scammers, members with FS threads that don't reply and getting no bites on my WTB thread I'm a bit let down. Might have one that's a 3 hour trip away (6 hour round trip)...
In theory, your car will benefit from a retune after every change, no matter how minor. But that's not to say it NEEDS one. Swapping the LS1 intake for an LS6 isn't going to be a major change in performance, especially on what sounds like a mostly stock engine.
If you're worried about it, postpone the tune. It wouldn't (to my way of thinking) be worth the added expense of a retune.
Depending on the headers, you may have a check engine light (like if they're long tube headers, which will not have provisions for fore and aft O2 sensors) but this is no concern.
