Under hood insulation
The under hood insulation is looking a little tired on my 2002 Z06 after 16,750 miles. What's the best option? I don't think it is available as a replacement from GM, and that probably would be expensive anyway. I could go aftermarket. I could clean it. I could take it off and paint it. What's the consensus?

Removed mine the week I got it, it was ratty looking. Cleaned underside of the hood, removed it and taped off the edges and sprayed it flat black to match the trunk. Looks 10x better that way imo. All it's really there for is to reduce engine noise....and who wants that? Lol. Some say it is a fire blanket too, I carry an extinguisher if that ever happens.

If you're going to shows, and popping your hood to show off your 'add on's, then if it was ME, I would spring for a new one, which I think are still available through the dealer, if you want the 'stock look'. On the other hand there are a couple of people on the forum that do custom ones, painted to your liking.
If you're not into a custom liner, why spend the money on a new one since the only purpose is to reduce the engine noise. So remove the old one, clean up the underneath of the hood, and that's it. I don't have one on my MCM.

I ran an MCM hood on the '00 I had and did not use a hood blanket due to the shape of the hood and the heat vent in it. Ran it that way for about six years and there was no adverse effect on the hood's paint.

Reduce engine noise, period!
Fire blanket?
Why doesn't every car, no matter what price point come so equipped?
Yes, fire blanket!
See how that hood liner put that fire out...cough, cough.
Protect the paint? wouldn't EVERY car need this? Yet only the higher priced cars have it, cause it's...wait for it, a 'noise suppressor'.

Yeah didn't look like it worked to well in that case. I've heard they were a fire blanket, wasn't real sure how much it would do in a fire. Apparently not too much!

I wonder if anyone would be interested in buying an aftermarket hood liner with a Z06 logo embossed in the middle? I wonder what it would cost to have that made?
