I am happy to report that I am successfully removing all of the clear plastic paint chip protective film. I found by letting the car sit in the hot sun, it is possible to remove the film with ones fingernail. Over half done with no paint damage. There are spots of glue residue that are easily removed with goof off and goo gone. I would not wish this project on anyone!
Great to hear that it's coming off without any problems. Good idea leaving the car sit out in the sun. Nothing can soften the film better than the heat from the sun on a hot sunny Florida day in the summer. Fortunately your paint hasn't suffered any damage, it's more than likely the original paint. Maybe using a hair dryer as well can ease the process.
I recently removed my 14-year-old venture tape by hand. Just Pull with smooth, slow consistent pressure. And like others have said the GooGone will remove the adhesive residue.
Let the GooGone sit on the residue and let it break down the adhesive. I also used a clay bar along with the GooGone on the residue. I had zero damage to the paint when removing my film.
The film prevented scores of paint chips over the years. It reallyworks! I plan to replace it with another film soon. The newer film has even better protection and clarity than the 03 film had. Good luck!
