Default help with 'saran wrap'

I have a 03 anniv and got caught in a pretty bad rain storm here in S FL.
After getting the car in the garage, I noticed the next day the protective plastic film was peeling on the nose, headlite lids, and side view mirrors in spots. looks like when you have a bad sunburn and your skin starts to peel. Anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the remainder of wrap without any paint damage?

It says "lurk" on the popcorn guy in the emoji(?) section to the right of the reply box. I'm guessing it could translate as "I'm sitting back and watching to see what happens"- like being at a movie or something.

What type of protective film is it? Expel, spray-on by 3m. I would try to warm it with a hair drier and see if it loosens up. Just be careful and do not get the surface too hot.

The popcorn symbol means the member subscribed waiting to hear the outcome.

When I purchased the veh at the chev store...they said this was a factory applied paint stone chip guard. It is a very thin clear plastic that is releasing at the edges, actually thinner than saran wrap.
It does not look like it was sprayed on, it has contoured edges. You can see the edge on the hood photo

That is an aftermarket protective film that was added on by either a previous owner or the selling dealer. You can try the hair dryer route and see if the film will lift up easy and if not, take it to a shop that installs protective film and see what they can do.

I have seen this type of material on vehicles but never covering that much area. My F150 Ford had some similar on the rear fenders where rocks would be thrown back and chip the paint.

I would take it to a good body shop or detail shop and get their opinion before I did anything myself.

Personally I would see if you can locate a shop that specializes in this sort of work. As film is usually applied after a quality detail job following say paint work you may even check with a good detail shop and see if they can recommend someone. A good detailer knows how to work with body film.

This was never applied to the C5 from the factory. While the technology did exist at the time it had yet to enter automotive application on a large scale. It was probably a more recent job following a good detail service.

I cannot believe you are suggestion that the used car salesman lied to me. They just don't do that! But I have to agree with you.
All kidding aside, I just hope I can remove the rest of the 'crap' without hurting the very expensive paint finish.

Found a good youtube video on how to remove, but looking at other forums about the subject, its a lot of hard work to remove the 3M clear bra when it starts cracking. A lot of ppl recommend to use the 3M adhesive removers, they say other products don't work as well. Also, I found online that its supposed to be replaced about every 7-10 years.

My motor home had the clear bra that was all spider webbed. I looked into removing it but learned that it was a very difficult and tedious job. No guarantee the paint wouldn't be damaged say the experts. So, do a lot of research. They spray a chemical on it and then use plastic razor blades and heat gun. Maybe it's not too bad. Good luck.

Default success

I am happy to report that I am successfully removing all of the clear plastic paint chip protective film. I found by letting the car sit in the hot sun, it is possible to remove the film with ones fingernail. Over half done with no paint damage. There are spots of glue residue that are easily removed with goof off and goo gone. I would not wish this project on anyone!
