The only electronic glitch with my lovely C5 Supercar is the rear window defroster. The button lights up, but the elements evidently aren't heating at all. Is this a problem common to C5's? Fuse, connector, where's the best place to start?

I would start with a visual inspection of the connections at the grid to see if maybe you have a broken connection. I believe Permatex makes a solderless adhesive that will bridge the break and and make the repair.
If it's not that the next thing I would do is put a multi-meter to the 2 lugs on the grid and see if you have voltage to it with the switch engaged.
If you have no voltage there then you have to investigate further back.
I'm not sure if that circuit is fused separately of combined with another circuit. I'm at work so I can't access my manuals but this should at least start you in the right direction.

OK, I did have SOME info here at work.
You can try looking at the Instrument Panel Fuse Block , which is located in the passenger foot well next to the BCM, Maxifuse #48 which supplies the rear defogger.

I recently had this issue, and it turned out to be a bad relay. I forgot what relay number it is, but it is the big one at the bottom of the passenger footwell fusebox. I brought it to O'Reilly's and got a replacement one right away.

However, it seems to me that the rear defroster is really weak. I measured 12v at the contacts, and it barely defrosts the rear window.
