They certainly look nice, but what about scraping? The C5 scrapes quite a bit a stock height, I can imagine what it's like after it's been lowered. After you lower it, do you limit where you drive, or do you just live with more scraping?
I only scrape the front black plastic air dam in a few places around town, plus I drag/scrape it in the crushed rock backing into my garage... Not alot of issues anywhere else, I have not and will not try a speed bump.
When it gets messy I will trim it, when its done I will replace it.
I could see giving it a try on the stock bolts, there would be no investment in doing that, and if that ends up being too low, you can always raise it back up...
The air dam is a wearable part that you periodically replace. No big deal.
Two other items to consider if you are concerned about scraping:
1) C5 Fangs from saccitycorvette for the front skid plates
2) UHMW Rocker Panel Rails from Elite Engineering; these will protect your rails and fiberglass from any scraping from lift ramps, speed bumps, etc.
Geezus, your on stock bolts. It's hardly riding on the ground at that point. Coilovers and slammed--different story.
Do I scrape? Yes at my driveway apron as it is a bit of a steeper angle. Do I scrape as I drive it everyday, NO. Some steeper inclines in driveway entrances you may want to take at a slower pace and more angle, but I've scraped my GMC Terrain in places like that too.
All you are scraping is the spring loaded black air dam, not the painted fascia itself. I do recommend those Fangs from SacCity Corvette as peace of mind.
I lowered both of mine all the way on the stock bolts.. the '99 with base suspension sits a full 1/2" lower than the Z06. The paint hasn't ever come into contact with anything in either, I don't worry too much about the air dams. I do take taller obstacles at an angle, and always dodge road kill. The difference in "stock" height and fully lowered on factory bolts is a little over an inch at most.
Just bought a 2003 C5 and the gentleman I bought it from lowered it using the bolts. I personally think it looks great lowered but I don't like the scraping at all therefore I am reversing it back to stock.
Wife already jumped me about it so back up it goes. It's still going to look great!
Well, la te da...when I get my C5 my house will be paid off and newly renovated, I will have no vehicle payments, I will have no credit card debt, in fact, I will have zero debt, and I will be retired...can you beat that?
