Default Best C5 Radar Detector Install

Want to have a neat install w/o wires hanging all over. I had a "built in" in my old 77 that was nice in it's day but old technology.

I have an escort on a blend mount. I ran the power cord underneath the top trim piece near the vanity mirrors, then behind the A-pillar to the box underneath the passenger foot rest. Looks way better than when I first got the radar detector and had it plugged into the cigarette lighter.

I've tried a number of aftermarket mounts for my V1 in my convertible and Imho, the best mount is the factory suction cup mount. I can get it up high on the windshield, just to the left of the RVM, and I've got the hardwire tucking out there from the trim. It's almost invisible up there. The problem I found with the Blendmount is, being below the RVM, it blocks visibility, and it sticks out like a sore thumb. You absolutely have to take it down every time you stop. All I have to do is flip down the visor, and it's impossible to see.

Yeah, I can't go below the mirror as I already have a big Garmin living there. I like your upper mount idea though.

This is where mine lives with doublesided tape. Impossible to see from outside the driver door, and difficult to spot from the front. I also used a DIY mirror tap. No visibility compromises either.

I use Waze too. Only problem is in areas without good data so it doesn't update.

Imho, the thing that stinks about Waze now is the new reporting limitations, and verifications. You can no longer report issues on the other side of the road, which effectively cuts the potential reports in half. Also, you can no longer click on a report icon after the count down expires to indicate the issue is no longer there - what good is the option to comment driving 80 mph - What are they thinking? Regarding Cops, it sure would be nice to have a rolling option as well, where the cop is running with traffic. Now it's just visible or invisible This weekend was a nightmare in that there were cop icons non-stop near Milwaukee and virtually non were accurate. Without my trusty V1, I would have been dead meat. Waze used to be alot better before the big changes.

I would like to see one built into the ash tray area. Someone did something similar to that on a 7th gen celica, and it looked awesome while being completely hidden.

I personally just can't have anything besides the mirror attached to the windshield, so none of these options work for me.

It is very likely that any of these units are not of a high percentage of usefulness given the police technology in their equipment.. If your are behind traffic when the police gun trigger is pulled you have a good change the unit in your car will give you a alert warning that is useful, but if your out front running and the unit in your car gives you a alert you have already been lit up and your speed recorded.. The police guns are instant on / off and do not bleed energy that your equipment uses for the alert before your on his gun.. Stopped using mind because of this.. Paid close to 500.00 for a well known manufacture of this equipment and it failed to give me a alert prior to a police setup trap and the manufacture will not give you written assurance it will work in all situations.. It just a expensive toy.. Lucky to have sold mine on a auction site. Be careful with the purchase because it will not protect you in all situations

This concept is for a Valentine 1 because it has a square enclosure instead of a curved one: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...v1-holder.html.

I like putting my V1 next to the drivers A Pillar

Cops and thieves don't see it and you can flip the visor to cover it
if you do get pulled over for anything

Here it is in my SRT Hemi Cherokee

Escort 9500IX (GPS/Redlight Cams) on a Blendmount and tapped into mirror power (2K Vert). Same setup in my 2013 LaCrosse Premium....very few false alerts with these bad boys :-)

That is my exact setup, also. I have the cord that has the alert light and mute button and it is installed in my ashtray compartment and I can close that lid to hide it if necessary. No exposed wires other than the short distance the lead comes out of the headliner to plug into detector. So far, I really like the detector. It has saved my butt a couple times already.

I thought a vendor made a plug and play deal that drew its power from the mirror harness?

Quick question: I have a radar detector I'd like to do this with.

I saw somewhere that you can use a standard RJ11 telephone wire to hardwire a Bel or Escort detector? And would you tie that to an internal fusebox?

You can use a standard RJ11 telephone wire. And for simplicity of wiring, I would wire it into the rearview mirror. There is also the option of using the accessory wire in the passenger footwell.

I drive about 60k miles a year, and outaide the nice or built up areas everything is still radar. Most the area outside atlanta is all radar. Just get out of town =)
the lasar indication is sometimes pointless and its awful when no there are no cars and your target 1.

Mine saves me all the time on the hwy

I have a V1 that up until recently I loved, trusted and swore by. The concept regarding alerting you to laser is that it will pick up scattered piece of the laser as it is being used to light up other cars far ahead. It will not give you a strong warning. But as it picks up bits of laser it will warn you enough that there is laser ahead. Obviously if it is not being fired at cars up ahead of you the V1 has no scattered signals to pick up.

And now to my original thought.............up until recently..........however these days the damn thing alerts almost non stop. It is set off by all the blind spot detectors in newer cars. V1 wants almost $300 to upgrade it to the newest technology that eliminates that. Too much $$$.
