Yesterday, a neighbor’s 13 year old grandson wanted to look at my ’04 Vette vert. So I popped the top and let him ‘inspect’ the car. When he asked some excellent questions, I answered “if you want to do a ride, then get permission from your dad”. He did and off we went. He was full of questions. He loved the ride. I did not show off but I had a suspicion he wanted to feel the thrill. After returning home, he wanted to see the engine and hear it. I think I just witness another future Corvette owner. Pictures were taken by mom and dad and who knows what the young man will do to help promote the car.
Many yrs ago my then cousin who was probably 12 knew what a ZR-1 was soon as I pulled up, probably from his video games.
All grown up now, drives a turbo Honda that would probably dust it
He will NEVER FORGET this experience (and you). He is a little car guy that had a great experience with an American icon all because of you giving up a little time. Kudo's to you!
When I have my 60 at car shows I always watch kids look at it and hear mom and dad tell them not to touch. I always walk over and open the door and tell them to sit behind the wheel for a picture. That is pure joy and u know it makes a lasting impression.
my favorite part is when they get out and mom and dad thank me. I always say "no problem it's not even my car." I get quite the reaction before I bust out laughing.
In 1990 I was 13yrs old, mowing lawns to save money for college. One of my clients bought a new ZR1.
I knew EXACTLY what it was and was in total speechless awe. Cool as a cucumber, he said 'jump in lets go for a spin'. I was stinky and dirty from mowing lawns in Houston heat, he didn't care. He punched it up to about 110, by far the fastest I'd ever been at the time.
Was at the corner store, in my 'oo Red Coupe, roof off of course. A young teenager on a bicycle pulled up beside me, "Nice car", he said. I replied "Thank you. This is one of my rewards for, working hard, getting old, and paying my bills on time". He said, "How old?". I laughed and replied, "About 60". He said, "I can do that!", and rode off. Made my day.
I feel in love with Corvettes when I saw a 78 Pace car at age 10. I can remember telling Dad "someday I'll own a Corvette". It happened, in fact for 5 years I owned two.
I've done ALLOT of car shows and I always let kids get in my Corvettes for pictures. I received a few "kids choice" awards too.

I know your pain. My was a '64 Vert auto with a hard top. Sold it in 1974 so the kids could have an in-ground swimming pool.

The kids love the rides, I usually coax the Dad or Gpa into being the driver. I bet over 100 people have driven mine, at the end of the day it's just a car that people enjoy.

This reminded me of something that comes up many times, though it has nothing to do with cars, but your experience made me think.
Many times when walking my dog in a wooded area of a big park, I come across lots of female joggers that stop to admire my German Shepherd.
The usual response when first seeing "Bobby" is, "My what a handsome critter", followed by, "you are absolutely gorgeous".
I thank them, then ask, "now what do you think of the dog"?
