Don't just walk away, run away! The car is an overpriced fraud plain and simple. Be patient, look around, much nicer and honest C5's available for very nice prices. Check out the stickies at the top of this page for much needed information while searching for that C5. Good luck1

Went to the web site of the dealer and read their description of the car. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that they or their salesmen are probably not versed in Corvette's as those on this forum are, I sent this email:
I am assuming that your dealership is just not familiar with Corvettes to realize that this 1997 being advertised as a “Z06 Targa” is not accurate. Z06’s were not introduced to the market until 2001. Z06’s only came in the Fixed Roof Coupe body and were only made with manual 6 speed transmissions. The “canary” yellow as advertised was not available in 1997 on any model, so this car has also been repainted. Before someone claims you are purposely misleading or false in your advertisement it would be advisable to change the advertisement to be more accurate. You have a 1997 Targa Coupe that has been repainted, has aftermarket headlights, and add on Z06 rear brake vents (probably non-functional) and fender emblems.
Let's see how they respond.

Hi, I'm new and thank you for adding me as a member
I'm looking at buying a corvette in the near future, and I came across this and totally had me confused. Is this a kit that someone offered? I have never seen one of these 'models' before and thought I would ask before looking any closer at it....

That's one of the things that had me confused and wondered if a aftermarket company had so called upgrades, as I have never saw this before. Also, didn't show engine to see if anything was different but then again, dealer doesn't say....never noticed height difference before, that's not good, unless pavement not even, but doubt it...

I thought it looked like it had a bent frame in the picture by its uneven stance.
The passenger side rear wheel well looks higher to me.
It doesn't have the euro light package or 300 Km/hr sped-o. I think you need those lights in Candida.
Someone said it had 170K miles. That is only 105K miles which isn't to bad. The $15,000 CAD price is only 11,565 USD. We tend to get confused about this in the US. It wouldn't be such a bad deal if it looked unmolested.

Thats the super rare z06 prototype with optional racing 20" wheels. The wheels alone add 120 hp and reduce coefficient drag by 99% making this the fastest production z06 ever, not produced. The paint is literally one of a kind, adding another 80 hp. The paint is aerospace technology so dirt will never stick. That's as much as I could find out on this top secret model. I'm on my way to purchase this for 10x this asking price as I feel bad getting such a good deal on a piece of unkown gm history.

keep on researching....take your time and look at a few vettes and test drive a few to see what you like. Honestly.....I think you would find a C5 to have all the comforts and reliability you are looking for in your price range. If you are patient you can find what you want in the teens....esp if you wait til fall. Also....don't forget that the FRC was the precursor to the Z06 and you can find some great deals on those and early Z06 models.

Clicked on the "Car Proof Buy Report" link in the ad and it shows the VIN. It is a '97 but its definitely not original M.Y. paint, and obviously not a Z06. I love it when dealers have no clue what they are talking about. I agree with you that its probably a stolen or salvaged VIN. Clicked on the "Car Proof Buy Report" link in the ad and it shows the VIN. It is a '97 but its definitely not original M.Y. paint, and obviously not a Z06. Someone should run a carfax on it and see what comes up. 1G1YY22G3V5101134That would be impossible if what you have is truly a 1997 model Corvette and not one of a later year with a salvaged VIN attached. To be specific, yellow was not available on this generation Corvette until 2000. Also, if you look there is a "Service Parts Identification"-sticker on which the RPOs are printed.
Until 1998 this sticker was fixed to the cover of the left rear storage compartment tray. If this sticker is attached to the inside of the glove box the car you have is not a 1997 but a 1998 or later. Here are the paint codes that could be on that sticker:
