Default Can someone please identify this 'model'

Hi, I'm new and thank you for adding me as a member

I'm looking at buying a corvette in the near future, and I came across this and totally had me confused. Is this a kit that someone offered? I have never seen one of these 'models' before and thought I would ask before looking any closer at it....

http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/Chevrole...up=106_15_1259

Thanks Mike

175000 miles? You can do a lot better than that one for the price. It is a fake Z06. Look for an unmolested lower mileage '01 and newer car.

Also it is riding real high in the rear. Might want to find out why. I would run away from that one.

That's a lot of money for a car with those miles. There are plenty of others out there that have less miles on them for that price, and besides, it's not a Z06.

Should probably report that ad to Autotrader. $15K CAD can buy a better car I'm sure. Nevermind the jacked up back, miles...

It's a high mileage '97 for $15k being advertised as a Z06. Pass! You can do way better.
The C5 Z06 came out in 2001 and is a fixed roof coupe.
This car should cost half that price.

I am not that familiar with the Canadian exchange rate or Corvette values there though.

I'd also stay way far away from that dealer. And the car looks like something that came from "south" of Texas.

Here is a link to a web-sight that might help with some of the options.

A fake Z06 and a high mileage 97 Vette for 15K?
Only if the buyer has a questionable decision making ability at best.

I would stay away from it. Besides all the fake Z06 stuff, millennium yellow was not offered until 2000. I know the car could of been re-painted but most people re-paint the car its original color.

Z06 with the ultra rare automatic transmission.

What the hell is with the back end on that car? That is just weird.

Run my friend, run away from that one even at $7K.

Thanks, my instincts paid off, glad I asked. With our dollar exchange at what it is, our corvettes up here are about a quarter again what the price is in the US. Someone asked me off forum, if it was cheaper to buy in US and ship up here, but , by the time I buy, convert my Cdn $ to US $ pay for delivery, duty etc it really doesn't save anything. Also, being on disability has it's limits go. My father passed recently and be getting a small amount to pay for one. So , looking up herem lots of C3, and C4 in the $10-$15 range but C5 and up start getting close to $20 and over unless high mileage ones....
Thanks again for advice

Thanks for your replies, and I will stay clear and give no more thought. I knew the Z06 badges with a automatic and being from 97, just didn't make any sense. Only thing I could think was a poor clone or a after market kit.

I'm in Northern Ontario. Was laid up with a badly broken leg last fall, decided to give up motorcycles for a corvette. Had lots of time to kill, so spent a few months looking, mostly AutoTrader and Kijiji. Found a '99 silver coupe, Z51, M6, unmolested, GTA, 48,000 Km, $18,500, found another silver coupe, M6, 2001, Parry Sound area, less than 50,000 Km, unmolested, $18,000. The one I bought is a '00, red coupe, M6, loaded, near perfect, 45,000 Km, headers, xpipe, Magnaflow, and cai, new tires, otherwise unmolested, $21,000. There were many more autos than manuals, and the autos seemed to be a bit less expensive. There are good deals out there, be patient, keep looking, the right one will turn up

Went to the web site of the dealer and read their description of the car. Giving them the benefit of the doubt that they or their salesmen are probably not versed in Corvette's as those on this forum are, I sent this email:

I am assuming that your dealership is just not familiar with Corvettes to realize that this 1997 being advertised as a “Z06 Targa” is not accurate. Z06’s were not introduced to the market until 2001. Z06’s only came in the Fixed Roof Coupe body and were only made with manual 6 speed transmissions. The “canary” yellow as advertised was not available in 1997 on any model, so this car has also been repainted. Before someone claims you are purposely misleading or false in your advertisement it would be advisable to change the advertisement to be more accurate. You have a 1997 Targa Coupe that has been repainted, has aftermarket headlights, and add on Z06 rear brake vents (probably non-functional) and fender emblems.

Let's see how they respond.

I'm in for the dealers response alxltd1. LOL
I picked up my 99 vert, 6 speed, 42000km, 2 owner last year for $18,000.00 near Peterborough. that's a crazy high price for that car. Keep looking.
