Default 243 Heads

I'm going to be having a cam and supporting mods, along with full exhaust installed this month. I'm thinking about having the heads done at the same time.

The question is this: there are 243 heads available for sale all over the place. Will a 243 from a 6.0 truck engine or other bolt up to the LS1 without issue?

Is it worth doing or just nice to talk about?

Car is 2003, LS6 intake already in place, has original TB, and has dual cone cold air intake?

Suggestions and recommendations from those who have been there and done that or are in the know are much appreciated!

I might be misunderstanding you but it sounds like you put a LS6 intake on it. All 2002-2004 Vettes have the LS6 intake already, whether its a Z06 or not.

Did not put on, just acknowledging it's already there.

243 heads are 243 heads regardless. 799 heads are the same castings with a rougher sand casting instead of the die cast of the 243's. The 799's can be had a little cheaper.

So the answer to your question is yes. I know because they are working fine on my car.

Thanks for the info. Same valve covers and coil pack brackets used? Any real difference in these vs. the originals? (241s for originals I think?)

Same everything is used on 243's...I just did the swap over the winter from the stock 241's.

243's flow a lot better than 241's. And if you're doing a cam, that increased flow makes much more of a difference.

I bought CNC'd 243's from Livernois. I looked into just bolting on a used set with a valve job and a cleanup, but ultimately CNC'd 243's are surprisingly common and not much more expensive. You're looking at $1k-1.5k for the heads, but I think it's worth doing. My car with a BTR Stage 2 cam absolutely rips, especially up top where the flow numbers make the biggest difference.

Like the others said. Everything matches up exactly. The 243/799 heads flow better, have better combustion chambers and higher compression ratios than the 241 heads.

Thanks guys I'm new to the internet. Well time to log off. I'm expecting a phone call and can't be surfin while this 33.6k modem blocks my phone line. I'll try to get on Netscape Navigator again tonight and look for these 243 heads that are everywhere.
