Default Turn signal malfunction

A returning member. Have a question. Own an 02 Vert and my turn signals randomly won't work. No signals on lamps and no flashers on dash. But then they return, again, randomly. Fuse is not blown. Anyone else ever experience this problem??

It's a common problem.

The hazard flasher relay is probably going bad. The part is not expensive but it's a bit of pain to get to.

It is a common problem as stated above. You can either replace the factory flasher or by pass it. If you bypass it you have solved the problem once and for all.

Here is a link to the bypass method:
https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1569256474

Go to post #48 and it describes the procedure. I did this to my 2001 three years ago and not a problem since.

Good luck with your repair.

The factory turn signal flasher is located in the hazard flasher. It is a combo unit.

I had the same problem. Replaced the flasher assembly and that cured it.

For a temp fix, cycle the e-flasher a few times. I do have the same problem. Bought a flasher, just haven't got around to digging into it.

A hyperflash harness should fix your problem and, as an added bonus, will allow you to install LEDs in the future with no hyperflashing.

Check this one out. It's completely plug-and-play: no splicing or anything.

I should go that route. How much of the dash do you have to remove? Just that lower panel under the steering column?

I bought the flasher and had a car audio shop do the install. They charged me $40+/- and I was out of there in a half hour.

I ordered one from Amazon. Will get it Monday so I can get it in for a trip we have planned. Can get a little hairy with turn signals working only when they want to.

If you have large(r) arms, you may not be able to get to the unit from the bottom.
I tried that route and it didn't work for me.

Ended up taking out everything from the center console to get to the switch.

Just did this on my 00, using the knee bolster info from this forum. Hardest part was getting the old Hazard switch to release from the dash. Small pocket knife to release the upper tab and a swift hit with a screw driver on the front of the switch got it to release, 20min job and never did it before.

Just got the harness and I am looking over the instructions. It shows removing fog lamp trunk release switch and interior temp sensor cover plate. Why? Do those need to be removed to remove the knee bolster?
Should I disconnect the battery before I start or is that not necessary?

I did mine last summer and it was easy... only caveat is the flasher is a bit quieter but not a deal breaker.

I can't recall the exact procedure, but behind the temp sensor cover plate is a screw holding that bolster on. Be really careful taking the sensor cover off as the tabs seem to break easily. I had to replace mine. It was my fault.

As for the trunk release switch, I believe there is a screw in behind there too but don't quote me on it. Switch should just pop out.

EDIT: I never disconnected my battery. Nothing got damaged.

Got an HVAC code BO338H. I am guessing it came up because I turned the car on to check turn signals before I had hooked sensor up. Otherwise all is good.
